Unwanted Telemarketer calls

No offense to those who need to make a living, but how do I get my number off the telemarketers list? I've been called on Saturday, Sunday, and at 11:30 pm!

I thought there was a toll free number to call to have your name and number removed. I've tried requesting the individual callers removed my number and although they said yes, it was not done.

Also, they will call and hang up just to have the call tallied to their numbers. When I try to call back (*69) the # is always unlisted.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I answer the phone in another language, and talk really fast and loud until they hang up. It's honestly caused the calls to slow down and it's good for entertainment.

That sucks, eldee! We started asking to be taken off of calling lists, and it worked. But it took awhile.

I have heard of people making a call log of unwanted calls and who they are from. Maybe you could leave a pen and pad beside the phone, and every time you get a telemarketer, write down the company and ask to be taken off the list. Then when they call again, tell them when they called last and that you requested not to be called again. I am sure that there are laws against (phone) harassment, I just don't know how they vary according to state. Tell them you are going to file charges, (even if you aren't) and see if that helps.

I also have heard that there is a law against calling anyone past 9 p.m. If they call after then, tell them you are going to file a complaint. Good luck!
