My favorite would have to be the storm cloud. I haven't and I'm honored you think I should. Thank you.

Not really "art" as much as a craft, but this is what I made for my mom for her birthday/Mothers Day.
It's an old window taken out of my house, and I had family members contribute words to describe her. The paint pens didn't turn out as nicely as I wanted, but she liked it!!

What a great idea navybelle, it is so cool and so personalized, I'm sure she loved it. It looks beautiful!

I have to say, I had a little bit of a panic attack when I saw your post thinking today was Mother's Day and I blew it, but googled and whew, relieved it's next Sunday!

Will she hang it on a wall or replace a window with it? Love the idea and it turned out special.

Wait, I see it is a window with the baseboard running along the bottom, but the rest of it seems mirror like as the way the wall next to the door is situated, you should see plain wall behind the glass. Instead you see a reflection of the other side of the room. right?

Thank you so much, and yes she'll hang it on the wall. It had hanging rings on top and kind of a burlap strap/ribbon. The way it is propped up does make it look more reflective, but it is just regular glass. Her walls are a pretty color, so the white will stand out.

My mom's birthday was last weekend, so we combine celebrations and gifts sometimes with Mother's Day.

    Re: My Art

It's not my art, it's a large oil canvass painting my grandfather did at least 70 years ago that no one else will ever be interested in. I'll be paying a fair chunk to have it reframed. It's on a wooden frame with no glass so it may benefit from a cleaning, and from what I've read on the Internet I might be able to do some of that myself. But I thought I would ask here first if anyone has any experience freshening up oil canvass paintings without ruining them.

Also, there is a 2 inch tear in the canvass. What is appropriate to apply to the back that's compatible with canvass? Are there specialty cloth tapes? It may just need to be stabilized until it's framed (this time with glass).

    Thanks!

    Re: My Art

I crochet. I am NOT an artist. Artists create beauty from their own imagination and skill. I call myself a technician who reads instructions well. I just finished a project wherein I adapted someone else's instructions to fit my needs.

Even in AZ, evenings in front of the TV can be a bit chilly (especially when sipping on an iced adult beverage with ice on my foot to treat plantar fasciitis). I have a lot of afghans that I've crocheted over the years, but I keep them in a closet in another room because I'm a neat freak and just didn't like the look of having one just sitting out in the living room. So . . .

I "downsized" a pattern that I've used many times to make it more of a "lapghan." And then I created a "pillow case" in the same pattern and attached it to the bottom of the lapghan. When not using it as a blanket, the whole thing just looks like a decor-appropriate pillow in a chair . . . but it's within easy reach. I posted pictures on Facebook, and have gotten a lot of positive comments (and a couple of requests). Since y'all are my friends here, I thought you might like to see it too.Capture.jpgCapture2.jpg
