Do manufacturers make that clear plastic packaging impossible to get into (unless you cut it open with scissors) so you can't return the product and get your money back?
Do you think that may be why things are so tightly wrapped in plastic?

Is it because the manufacturers know if you break a light bulb you just have to go out and buy more?
Why wouldn't they pack CFL bulbs more carefully since they contain mercury and require a HAZMAT cleanup when broken?
