Hmm. I've never used a recipe, I've just kinda eyeballed it. My dad showed my how to make it when I was a kid. I'll try to think out a recipe here.

Everything needs to be done gently and slow to keep the nog fluffy.

For about eight servings (Dad always said one egg for every two servings if you need to make more)

    4 eggs
1/2 cup sugar (divided in half)
1 1/2 cups whole milk (doesnt seem to tast right w/skim)
2 cups liquor (I use bourbon whiskey and white rum)
1 cup heavy whipping cream (divided in half)
    ground nutmeg

Separate eggs into yolks and whites in separate bowls
Beat egg-yokes, add 1/2 of Sugar, set aside.
Beat egg-whites until stiff, then mix in other 1/2 of sugar.
    Mix egg mixtures together slowly.
    Stir in white rum slowly
    Stir in milk
    Stir in whiskey slowly
Stir in 1/2 of cream slowly
Whip rest (1/2) of cream, fold in carefully.

Add nutmeg to taste (I don't like nutmeg, so I only put it in if other people want it)

I hope that's close enough, Finally. I only measure about half the time, so hopefully I'm remembering right

Screw the meeting. Who's got a good eggnog recipe? Maybe a low fat one?

Question for SG: If you're making them virgin, do you add anything to replace the liquor?

Additional question for SG: if you're making them virgin, what's the point?!

Sometimes I add vanilla extract. I love the taste it adds. You could also add rum flavoring if you want the alcohol taste without the alcohol.

I just went and got this one out of my recipe book. It was supposed to be George Washington's eggnog recipe. I don't know how they know that, but I've used it once or twice and it was pretty decent. It's for a big party or something, though, cause it makes a lot. Never tried to cut the recipe, so I don't know how it is in smaller batches. Looks like George was even more of a booze hound than me.

This recipe for eggnog comes from George Washington's own recipe archives.

    1 pint brandy
    1/2 pint rye whiskey
    1/2 pint Jamaica rum
    1/4 pint sherry
    8 eggs
    12 Tbsp sugar
    1 qt milk
    1 qt cream

Mix liquors first, then separate yolks and whites of eggs. Beat yolks and add sugar, mixing well. Add liquor to mixture slowly, continuing to beat. Add milk and cream, slowly beating. Beat whites of eggs until stiff and fold slowly into mixture. Chill thoroughly.

Thanks for the recipe, but... it's so INVOLVED! I think I'll just buy the eggnog mix at the store and add my rum and consider myself an eggnog-maker.

It is a whole lotta business, isn't it? Not to mention the risk of salmonella and such. I like to live dangerously. No, really, it just sounds hard. Once you've made it a couple of times, its really easy.

Looks like I've got some catching up to do drinking wise

*holds up a giant 32oz cup to be filled to the brim with eggnog*

By the way, I ordered the male stripper, he said he had his own santa hat and a mistletoe thong He should be on his way.
