| Hey, is John going? I just noticed he hasn't posted. You'll be there, won't you, John? We need to be able to see you hovering over the crowd so none of us wanders off and gets lost.

Exactly, Unk. See, I had apparently gotten lost in that picture and was able to find my way back by scouting out John.

| Oh, for the love...! Can we please stop reposting that picture? I look both terrible and like a control freak! ("All of you! Walk this way...now!")Come to think of it, it's a pretty good candidate for "Caption This!" ![]()

Also, I was recently in Vegas, and checked out both Sahara and Bally's. Sahara looks like much more fun, personally. A bit cheesier, old-Vegas style, and the monorail is RIGHT there that takes you to all the way down to the MGM if you want. I didn't check out rooms in either hotel, but really, I'm only planning to spend about 3 hours a day in my room, and most of that with my eyes shut. So, it'll be Sahara for me. | ||

| Okay, I was looking into the San Remo Hotel & Casino and found the best deals there. Good location--on the end of the Strip, across from MGM, next door to Tropicana, a stone's throw from the Hard Rock. Clean and serviceable, and like John said, you ain't gonna spend a lot of time in there, anyway. One caveat, and it's why I didn't mention it before: It's being remodelled into the Hooters Hotel & Casino. (I kid you not.) And I had a feeling that some Forters would object to it on moral grounds. (But, hey, at least one of the highlights of the new Hooters Hotel aside from the obvious ones is that it's going to feature the Dan Marino seafood restaurant. Because, baby, when I think "seafood," the name Dan Marino instantly comes to mind. It's all moot, anyway, since I called them about two weeks ago, and they're now as expensive as some of the other prime Strip locations. ![]()

| Dang it. Why am I just now finding out about Hotel Hooter? Well, all is not lost. I now have plane tickets in hand (well, e-tickets, so in cyber-hand )!! My intense phobia of flying kicked in as I was buying it and I feel like puking now. But I have them.

| San Remo looked like a decent hotel from the lobby, which is the only part of it I saw. It's about a block and a half off the strip, which means it's going to be a long walk to get to the strip (or a cab ride, which is how I would be doing it). Hard Rock is 2 blocks off the strip, which means well over a mile. The Stratosphere is kitty-corner from the Sahara, and easy walking distance. The monorail stops at the Sahara, the Flamingo, Bally's, and the MGM Grand. Keep in mind, if you've never been there, that you'll be walking a LOT, or hailing cabs. And traffic is impossible, so don't plan to rent a car. A taxi will get you anywhere you want in the city from the airport for under $20. Hard Rock to the airport, $10-12, for a good example. If you've never been to Vegas, ask the cab driver to go down the strip instead of I-15. It'll take a lot longer and cost more, but it's a WAY better look at Vegas, especially if you're coming in at night. If you're going to stay at Circus Circus, be prepared to be surrounded by little kids. It's where all of the parents-with-kids stay when they're in town, and it's really overrun. At least it keeps most of them out of the rest of the casinos ![]() Bring a good pair of walking shoes, and drink plenty of water. | |
