Just wondering - would we get a better room rate if all or most of us stayed at the same place?
Every time I've ever gone for booking multiple rooms, they SAY they are giving better rates, but then you find out you've been bamboozled!
I for one will be there, but I'm not going to spend a small fortune on a room. You canafter all go in any of the hotels you wish and hang out. Right now i'm leaning toward either Sahara (88.00 for those dates) which has the NASCAR mini-museum and SPEED the ride, or Stardust ($93.00 for those dates) with the Wayne Newton theatre. Both are old classics, and perfectly ok unless you demand brand new or really upscale rooms...I don't . It's not really the "wrong" end of the strip to me because I like going Downtown. Besides, there's all manner of free transportation an the area, and even a cab is cheap if several folks pile in (Vegas cabs don't charge per person, or at least not last time I went). If anyone thinks those sound good...let's figure it out before too long! If not I may play Priceline and try to get and extra "star" rating for my c-note or less.

NOTE...there is a big Harley Davison thingy going on there that weekend, expecting 100,000 folks, so we probably won't get any better deals closer to time. Yeah, I'm rude but I suggest making plans at least by the 1st of August.
And Phat, don't worry about anybody looking at you strangely as long as I'm around. Then again, it's Vegas, noone will pay much attention to any of us most likely!

Yeeee Haaaa! My brain is overflowing with incredible memories of Fortcon. I kid you not -- the best 36 hours of my life.

Just tell me when and where, and I'm all over it.

I'm ready to head west any time now. Just tell me the hotel that's going to be the base and I'm there. I really think it's better to stay in the same one if possible and do things together. mr. gracie and I went our own way in Chicago and I still feel like I missed something by doing that. At least this time I don't have anyone that I must visit like rich relatives or long lost lovers. I can stay more with the gang and get to know everyone better.

I agree, gracie. I would love to know where the "home base" will be so I can book a room in the same place. I think the closer we all are the more time we can spend together, and the more we'll get out of the weekend!!

I'd like to mention Sahara again; the price is right and while it's at the very North end of the Strip, it's close to Fremont Street (my personal favorite thing out there) and there is a monorail station there, so you can get to anywhere on the Strip in just a minute.
I do really like the casino in the Stardust too, very open and comfy with possibly a bit less cigarette smoke due to the high ceiling.
I wouldn't mind getting a room on Fremont (Downtown) either, if we don't get it directly on the Strip. I personally don't care for the off-Strip lack of atmosphere, (exception, Hard Rock, and it's waaaay out of my budget!)
Someone else name names, or a price range, or something? Come on folks!

I am pretty sure that John is organzing stuff and looking into group deals. So I am just going to wait for him as I am sure he will do an excellent job.

I think that it is best that one main person does it.

I have seriously considered driving, but I'm not about to do it by myself and three days on the road plus hotel rooms on the way seems a bit pricey to me compared to the price of a plane ticket. I'm kind of nervous about flying myself since I haven't done it since I could fly student standby for really cheap. I think it cost me $40 to fly from Colorado Springs to Toledo.
