I had the dangdest time trying to find this conversation to double-check the dates and I felt it deserved a thread of its own anyway so I'm reposting here:

I propose a FoRT Day at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter on Wednesday, December 21, 2016. I'll be there following a cruise through the Panama Canal to celebrate my 70th birthday.

Who's in?

I'm planning on going. Even if I can't go to the park, I'll plan to be in Orlando so I can meet my Fort friends!

Are you talking Florida or California as the new HP adventure will be open at Universal, Hollywood in April.

It's an hour from me so if it's CA, I will definitely try to be there!

Ohhhh, I hope you guys will do it. That will be so much fun --- to actually meet, in person, and hang out.

The last we talked, I thought the group meant in Florida but I'm not sure. If it's going to be in California, I can't go.

I suppose we could do a split venture. Those closest to Florida could meet there and those closest to California could meet there! Maybe we could do a conference call between the two groups at some point.

If it's in Florida I'll be there. I have family there and could make a week or better vacation out of it. In fact at least 1 of them would probably want to come too. I'm planning on it, but have at least 1 other vacation this year to plan, so don't have any flight yet. As the time gets closer, we can co-ordinate times/places/dates.

Well, shoot. When we made these plans, we were working and had an adequate amount of disposable income. We recently decided to both retire on April 15th, and that's going to require some budget cuts. We decided tonight to cancel the Panama Canal cruise, so we won't be in Florida in December after all. We are going to Universal Hollywood, though . . . and 3 days there will be a LOT less expensive than a 14-day cruise through the Canal.

It's ok, AZ. Nothing was set in stone when last we talked about it and that was a long time ago so it's understandable that plans changed.

I'd still like to meet my Fort friends so maybe we can work out something else in the future.

I'm on a tight budget myself because my condo was cited for multiple violations and myself and the other owners have to split the cost to get it fixed. I wasn't going to be able to join everyone in going to Universal Studios so some other time or place might work out better for me.

Maybe we could all go to Medieval Times or something.
