Hey...I just might be able to make it! I bring my kids up for school, and there are loads of trips from Vancouver to Las Vegas. Would that make me the "farthest forter?" And ummm, John, your Phat comment about speaking British made me spit out my drink. I really hope I can make it and maybe bring my hubby as well.
Somehow we gotta get Leo here..."farthest forter" hands down (i think)
I like the idea of a mini-BAR if that counts. :whistle
I'm almost positive we will be there, if I can just get over this annoying fear of flying. grrr
mr. gracie may be coming after all. He's decided that I can't possibly fly to Vegas by myself and I'm not footing the bill for one of my kids to go with me. I'm a little nervous about flying only because the last time I flew anywhere was 1968 (omg) and you can't :smokin on any of the flights or do any of the things I normally do when I'm nervous. No pointy things you know. I'll manage though cause it's worth it to be at Fort.con II.
Mini bar or mini TAR, both sound good to me.
If you end up doing the mini-TAR then you could see who can eat a dozen boiled eggs the fastest; quail eggs that is. Hehe. And if anyone is veggetarian then you can substitute the large grape tomatoes because they are about the same size. :nod

That's what airplanes are for! Airtran serves NY and Vegas, and I know they run sales of $99 each way quite often!

When they get rid of all the old places, I won't care for Vegas so much anymore..."upscale and snooty " a la Bellagio, Palm, etc. might be more comfy, but not nearly as fun!
The future of Vegas:
Not all that glitters is 'new' in Las Vegas. There are a number of
old-timer hotels and some may be torn down or even imploded
Which ones may be torn down next? Only one is positively ready for
wrecking ball - the Boardwalk, located between Monte Carlo and
No word yet on when but either but later this year or early 2006, the
hotel will be taken down. In its place the parent company of MGM
will build four hotels, condos and entertainment facilities. Opening
phases of the new construction will begin in '08.
The oldest continually operating hotel on the Strip (since 1942), the
Frontier, is likely to go next. Media reports claim it will be taken
down in 2006 for a 3,000-room, $1 billion buck hotel.
Another goner in '06 could be the Stardust. Owners have bought
adjoining land and the rumor is that a multi-billion dollar "city
a city" will replace it - similar to Boardwalk's scheme.
The Tropicana could go the way of the wrecking ball as well in 2006.
Owners want to tear all or part of it down and build one or two big
resorts but have bumped any formal announcement of when.
The Riviera could be re-developed later in '07. Its new ritzy next
neighbor, Wynn Las Vegas and whatever new development replaces the
Frontier, could push this property to dust.
Other hotels rumored to be on the chopping block, but more likely to be
overhauled or vastly improved, include the Sahara, Imperial Palace and
If you're nostalgic about any of these 'vintage' hotels - visit soon!
Well I just stayed in the Riviera this past weekend.
Some of the ones they are talking about knocking down do need some updating.
But I have class on Saturday. And since school starts in August, I don't think they'd excuse me to go to FORTCon. :mmm
