Cucumber water is really good. Lemon infused is ok, too. I don't like a lot of lemon in mine, just a hint, so I rub the other half on my glass shower doors. The citrus eats the water and soap scum off immediately. ..lol. 2 birds, 1 stone

In summer I keep a big pitcher full of water with cucumber, lemon, orange and lime slices in it. So good in the heat. I also love iced tea, barely sweetened. I can't drink the syrup they call sweet tea here in the south. It's gross.

I don't do sweet tea at all. Give me lots of ice and no sugar.

I always put mint leaves in lemonade. Yummy. Mint goes good with cucumber water, too.

    Yikes: https://blog.myfitnesspal.com/your-body-on-soda/
Beyond the sugar conversion into fat thing, I find the fact that it interferes with the body's ability to absorb calcium to be especially upsetting.

I have read that frequently but I'm not sure it's true, and if it is you probably need to consider your total dietary phosphorus load. And any other factor that influences calcium absorption, like Vitamin D. And then there's the issue of whether it's metabolized properly and efficiently once it's in your body. Often the folks who say don't drink soda because it will interfere with calcium absorption are also the ones that say never eat meat because that will too. Chris Masterjohn had a good blog refutting that one.

But certainly plenty of other reasons to avoid or minimize sodas.

I hate to repeat, but I haven't found an answer. Is coconut water safe? I'm worried about the conditions it comes from in countries that have questionable food regulations.

    Re: Beverages

I assume it must be safe or the FDA wouldn't allow it to be sold here.

There are lots of articles online about coconut water, like this one.

I tried coconut water once and didn't care for it. I'd rather drink plain water. I only tried one brand, though, so perhaps others are better.

Thanks, but it doesn't address the harvesting standards of the place it comes from. I read somewhere that they put carcinogenic chemicals on the coconuts. You never know what to believe. Plus, how would the US know what they doing to harvest them in Thailand? I'm not sure why, but I'm just wary of it. Coconut oil too.

Wow, I never even thought about it Debb. I never buy any food item that says China on it anywhere, but I get the coconut water from a South American grocery store here in Naples. I assume it's from Latin America but can't find any info!

I think I'll look around the store the next time I go grocery shopping to see what's available. I've heard of horchata but never tried it so I might consider that.
My coworkers love to add fruit like pineapple or apples to spice up their water. Personally I like to add sliced cucumber to it..gives it a fresh crisp taste.
