    Heresy!!

    I still remember the anthem.

Have you ever heard of a pig
Who is yellow, devine and quite big
    His day is one-seven
    He resideth in heaven
Be sincere or your own grave you'll dig!

(I was part of the 1967 revelries. There were a great many yellow graven images in the shape of pigs!)

So, one holiday in a month isn't enough for beer-drinkers. They had National Beer Day on September 7 and they have National Drink Beer Day coming up on the 28th. I wonder if they intend for people to stock up on beer for the first holiday and then drink it for the second one?

BTW, International Beer Day is the first Friday in August.

My favorite event of the year is here- the Greek Food Festival starts today!

My friends at work and I are going there at 11AM to try and beat the lunch crowd. I plan to get 2 tiropitas, a chocolate cake, and a festival t-shirt.

If I have any money left over, I'd like to go back on Saturday to get a dinner, explore the booths (jewelry, clothes, books, art), and listen to the music.

I'm wearing my t-shirt that I got at the festival last year.

    Re: Celebrating lesser-known holidays

Things were a madhouse at the festival. My friend and I got there a little after 11 and already the parking near the event was full so she circled around to a parking lot we passed up earlier. The event organizers hadn't organized the parking well so there were no attendants at the lot and people could park where they wanted in the grass, which meant that people parked where they blocked off people getting access to other parts of the lot. We finally go a spot and walked to the event. My friend had been going to get cash before going to the event but I told her she didn't need to since you could use debit cards. It ended up you could pay for pastries or dinners with a debit card but you needed to pay cash for the a la carte items so my friend wasn't able to get the gyro she planned to get. I felt so bad but I didn't know! It wasn't like that last time. They did have ATM machines but they had a $5 surcharge on them. I also wasn't able to find the t-shirts while we were there. They didn't have the booth in the same location it always is. After we got back I looked at their website and found where they were selling t-shirts so when I go back tomorrow I can get one.

We were both disappointed because things were so chaotic and many things about the festival had changed. Next year, we plan to go at 10AM, when the event opens to hopefully avoid all that mess, and we'll definitely have cash on hand!
