When you try the new routine, please let me know how it works for you. The only reason I haven't ordered a press is that very same thing; my low drive in the morning might make me slow until I learn to use the thing. I've been known to try to start my pot with, among other things--
    a) no water
    b) no coffee
c)no water and no coffee (a really bad day)
    d) putting water in twice and flooding the counter
    e) scooping coffee into my lunch that I'm trying to get ready at the same time.
    f)many, many more

    I don't think you're ready for a press.

Queenb -- you're not alone!! Been there and done that, several times!!!!!
Also, I've done no filter in the basket which is really messy.

Maybe a press would be better, since it's impossible to make those goof-ups with a press!

I love the starbucks brand coffee beans! I am convinced that my blood supply is 20% caffeine!
To clean the coffee maker itself, I run my coffee makers through a cycle of 1/2 vinegar to 1/2 water ratio. Run it through a cycle, then let it sit for 20 minutes. Dump the coffee maker, rinse and run through another cycle with plain water.

To clean coffee stains from stainless steel percolator, I use a baking soda white vinegar mixture right on the stains. Let it sit for 10 minutes or so, then rub the stains off.

OK - I've given this a lot of thought. Maybe you could grind the beans the night before and put them in the press. Then before you go to bed, put a mug of water in the microwave. Then in the morning all you have to do is start the microwave and pour it in the press. Think you could handle that?

    Re: Coffee

QUeenb, you'll love the press. I got a 2 cup one at Target for 9.99. Decided that wasn't big enough and later got the BIG one for $19.99
Then got an insulated coffee carafe at Goodwill for $2. BEcause the press doesn't keep it hot. I make it, then pour it into the carafe.
The carafe has kept it hot all day before. Maybe you could make it before going to bed, pour it in the carafe and it would still be hot when you got up im the morning???

    Re: Coffee

THAT sounds like a good idea--I can't drink coffee as hot as it comes directly from the maker, anyway. Will try this when I get my UE check coming!
