| Re: Crockpot recipes I didn't see this when you posted, dustypants. I'm so glad you liked it! It's one of my favorite slow cooker recipes - so easy and inexpensive and YUMMY!

| Re: Crockpot recipes I have the to die for potroast going in the crockpot. It smells so good. This is one of our go to recipes now. So easy. Rounding out with baked beans in the little crockpot (had a craving) and mashed potatos. Yeah, looks like a carb night around here. ![]()

| Re: Crockpot recipes Sounds delicious, myrosiedog. My sister in law once brought a crockpot full of baked beans to a gathering, and they were delicious! She had hamburger in them, and all kinds of beans in a yummy barbecue sauce.

| Re: Crockpot recipes This baked bean recipe makes a lot, but it freezes well. And I have approx. measurements, so I taste this halfway thru cooking and then adjust by adding more of something. 1 lb bacon cut into small pieces 1 pound hamburger 1 onion chopped 1 can red kidney beans 1 can navey beans 1 LARGE can Bush's regular baked beans 1 can butter beans 1 cup ketchup 1/4 cup mustard 1/4 cup vinegar 1 cup brown sugar Brown bacon, but take out before it becomes "crisp" and add to crockpot Brown hamburger and onion in the bacon grease, drain well and add to crockpot Dump all cans of beans in the crockpot with their juices. Add other ingredients and cook on low 8 hours. You may need to adjust the ketchup and brown sugar during the cooking time by adding more. Because of all the meat in this, we usually have it as our maindish.

| Re: Crockpot recipes I forgot to mention that I cut down on the mustard and vinegar. I like mine more tomato-ey and a little more sweet from the brown sugar. The vinegar does give it a good flavor, so I don't eliminate it, just cut down on it to a splash or so. And a squirt of two of mustard. But as she didn't really give me exact measurements (this was a friend's mom's recipe and while she knew what went in it, she didn't have the measurements), we guessed, so I honestly don't really measure, I just put the stuff in, then let it cook awhile, taste it and add more ketchup or brown sugar if it needs adjustment. It's great because it's really meaty.

| Re: Crockpot recipes I am going to give Criticals Smoky Chipotle Cassoulet a try today as I have most of the ingredients already. I may go for the fresh squeezed orange juice if I can find some good oranges as that is one of the things I am out of here. MRD, your bean recipe looks great too. I like the idea of adding to the Bush's - we sure are adding loads of beans into our diet here and no one is complaining There is nothing like some extra tasty fiber added to the diet! |

| Re: Crockpot recipes I eat a lot of beans because I don't eat a lot of meat. I add beans to just about everything and I can eat chickpeas straight out of the can. I put them on salads a lot too. We often have beans and rice for dinner. Healthy and inexpensive. I made baked beans the other night and used Bush's. I always add to it. I never make canned baked beans that I don't doctor them up.
