On a serious note if you are considering Mezcal as a tequila since they are both made from maguey plants with tequila made specifically from the blue agave I agree wholeheartedly.
Mezcal (mescal) was a big favorite of the hippie generation, not that I would personally have any knowledge of it's proprieties.
I seem to remember it being called mescaline. Not that I know first hand either.

Several months ago a friend bought me a shooter called Liquid Cocaine. I stopped doing shooters years ago, but I did try this. It was purple and tasted like Robitussin. I told her: How much did you pay for a shot of cough syrup?
Man, it was GROSS and burned all the way down.

Personally if you have to add fruity, sugary, colored crap to an alcoholic beverage, then you have no business drinking. I want to taste my whiskey. Not cover it up so that the only purpose is to get about 1200 calories a drink and get drunk without having to learn to appreciate the taste of good alcohol.

That said, do you think it's too early for a Jim Beam? It IS Saturday ya know.

Mezcal is the blue agave liquor Unk mentioned; mescaline is a hallucinogen derived from peyote cactus buttons. They are sounds alikes but not at all the same thing. I will apply the 15 year rule at this time, thanks.
I start my 3 day clear liquid diet tomorrow. Isn't beer a clear liquid?

Glad you could clear that up for us. Your clear liquids might be able to include any of the mass produced light beers or even regular Coors or Budwieser, but forget the fine microbrews from the Northwest, they are a meal in a can...

Friend of mine had to prep for colonoscopy and his doc said yes, beer was a clear liquid.

    Re: Alcoholic beverages

I clearly grew up in a generation where alcohol tasted like alcohol.

I can't do all those candy shots or flavored martinis or overly sweet drinks. I actually like to taste the bourbon or the tequila and not disguise it.

Besides, my shot days are OVER!!!! I used to drink B-52's and tequila shots (seperately) and realized at some point that it was the shots that made me sick.

Oh Lor'... The Hokey Pokey is NOT what it's all about!!! It's all about a margarita made with Cointreau, good tequila, and fresh squeezed limes on the Friday evening of a 3-day weekend. Oh baby!

I agree! Once you've had one of those, you'll never go back to some throw-together afterthought made with margarita mix!

    AMEN to that! Bleh.

If I'm going to poison my liver, it has to be single-malt scotch on the rocks with a twist... or a premium vodka martini, shaken (it matters) with either a twist or olives, don't care ... or a good cabernet or merlot.

No fru-fru, fruity, sugary, bubbly brew for me. Simplicity.
