Re: Celebrity Chefs

livin4reality -I'm glad someone else noticed that!!! I imagine if Giada doesn't like you, she doesn't try and hide it!
I really dislike watching Ina Garten, she really creeps me out with her low whisper and those giggles rank way up on the creep scale. I do have to admit her recipes never fail and are foolproof. We had many of her recipes from her new cookbook on Thanksgiving and each and every one was delicious!!!

Re: Celebrity Chefs

Ina bugs me in as much as I swear her husband creeps me out. Their interactions really just give me the willies.

Re: Celebrity Chefs

Ina is one of my favorites. I think she comes across as a lot of fun and the warmth between she and her husband looks genuine. Hard to imagine a couple married that long who still seem to genuinely care for each other. Of the FN recipes I have tried, Ina's and Giada's are the best.

Re: Celebrity Chefs

I like Rachael Ray. She can be a bit much but her recipes are easy and always turn out well for me.

Giada's recipes are 50-50 for me--some turn out great, and others taste horrible (like her lemon oil arugula linguine). She bothers me. I think she's gorgeous, but she seems really fake (mean fake, unlike Rachael Ray's happy/goofy fake). I saw her on that "Iron Chef" thing against Mario and Rachael and I thought she was going to tear Rachael's head off when they (Rachael/Mario) won the contest.

Ina's food looks great but she comes across as pretentious. I hate when she tells people to use "good olive oil." Well, not everyone can afford the "good olive oil" so let them use what they can afford and stop making them feel like losers for using the cheaper "bad olive oil."

Bobby Flay: can't stand looking at him so I never watch him.

Mario: can't stand looking at him but his food looks good.

Tyler Florence: he bothers me, too. He uses the word "beautiful" too much to describe his food. I'm sorry, but when there's a plateful of something beige, it's not beautiful. Actually, all the chefs use that word too often. Gees--think of another description.

Alton: He's interesting, but he's such a smarty pants that he bugs me, too.

Paula Dean: I think I'd die of a heart attack/clogged arteries if I ate all her food, but I get a kick out of her! Don't like her sons though.

Ming Tsai: I used to love watching his shows (I love Asian and Asian fusion food!) but never see him anymore!

Aren't I just super cranky today?!!

Re: Celebrity Chefs

Lois,
Tyler is from here, so he gets a lot of local press. I just read an article about him in our local monthly magazine and he has or had ADD. I think that has to be why he speed talks. He talks so fast sometimes that I can't keep up. But I like him a lot and I have never made a recipe of his that turned out badly. Same for Ina Garten and Paula Deen.
But I have to say that I have yet to make a Rachel Ray recipe that I liked. Her voice and that laugh grate on my nerves and I can't stand watching her. Bobby Flay, I have never made any of his recipes as they all look too complicated and a tad pretentious.

I love Alton. I love how he explains how things work in food.

I have tried a few of Giada's recipes and some good, some not, but you are right, she comes off as fake and I have to wonder if she really eats what she cooks other than that one mouthful. She is always going on about how this is her favorite and they eat this a lot, etc., and I look at her and think: you don't eat. Ever.

Mario is super pretentious and I hate the shorts and orange clogs he wears.

Going back to Ina. Something about her voice is soothing to me, so I like to listen to her and she looks exactly like a really wonderful friend of mine who I don't get to see often, so maybe that's why I like her. But her recipes are good. They are not as complicated as some of the other chefs, use good, fresh ingredients and are just plain good, comforting food.

Paula can drive me crazy. I live in the South and honestly, no one talks quite like her. I hate that she says Pee-can instead of Pe-kahn. And she must have a supertanker of butter that delivers to her house. But she cooks like my mama and grandmother used too, so I do like that. I have made a lot of her recipes and they are usually really good. But you sure can't eat like that every day. I like her sons though. They are just really sweet and you can tell they love her and are devoted to her. You don't see that a lot in many families anymore. But then again, I grew up with a lot of boys like them and we always called them "good ole' boys", so maybe I'm just used to that kind of man.
Her husband bugs me. He looks so put upon when he is on her show. You know he'd rather be ANYWHERE else.

Guess I'm a cranky pants today too.

Re: Celebrity Chefs

The one chef I really can't stand is Sandra Lee. Her food always looks gross to me. I'm a bad cook, but even I wouldn't use some of her weird "easy" fixes. I'd rather make it from scratch.

OMG, talk about pretentious!!!!!! I CAN'T STAND her!

There is a website forum where people dis her show and her recipes. Someone sent me the link and I lost it. But it was hysterical.
They attempt her recipes and post pictures of the results which usually are horrendous and they give her a lot of crap all the time.

Maybe someone on here knows the link and can PM us with it.

And her "tablescapes", like we all have that kind of money to run out and buy a bunch of useless crap to make the table look busy and not have enough room for the important stuff: the FOOD!

And her cocktails make me want to gag. Just the mere thought of some of those ingredients mixed together makes me sick and I haven't even been drinking.

Re: Celebrity Chefs

Ina is reliably good. I just wish she'd come up with a set of diet-conscious recipes, because many of hers start with a pound of butter, a pound of sugar, or several cups of heavy cream.

Paula Deen makes me nauseous. Sometimes I see her on an adjacent tv at the gym, and there's usually at least one thing on her show that makes my teeth or stomach hurt just from watching (but deep fried food makes my stomach ache pretty quickly). I'm sorry, if you've slapped together bacon, sausage, scrambled eggs and cheese, a roll or English muffin is sufficient to hold it together. You really don't need a pair of glazed Krispy Kremes. There was another one recently that had my eyes bugging in the middle of my workout.

My mom likes Giada, and the one thing she made was pretty good. Don't really watch much of the others. But that leftovers story from Sandra Lee almost made me gag while reading FoRT.

You'd be surprised-- usually it's on at least a few of the tvs when I work out near my apartment. Very popular among women. I usually try for ESPN, but Food Network isn't bad. Not that Ina's cooking is the model menu of the diet-conscious, but for some reason she always ends up seeming healthy... I guess Paula Deen has that effect.
