| Re: Holiday baking Canuckinchile - Ok, I bit the bullet and tried making the butter tarts this evening, using your recipe but adding walnuts and coconut. I used pre-made pie crust because I wasn't feeling quite that brave. Well, they just cooled enough for testing - and the one I tried was absolutely wonderful! It was so much like I remembered from when Mom made them. You've made my son a very happy man (he'll be getting his samples tomorrow morning) and my Dad is going to be just as happy at Christmas! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!! ![]() ![]() ![]() By the way - I think that when my mom wrote "c milk" she may have meant condensed milk; would that make sense as an alternative to the corn syrup? But I don't think she actually used milk of any kind ... these are too similar to what she made. Again -- thank you!

| Re: Holiday baking You're so welcome I can't really take any credit, but I'm glad they turned out well. Condensed milk is sweet, so maybe that's right, but honestly I have never used milk of any kind when making butter tarts. Now, I'm going to have to make some It's the only thing my hubby likes that contains raisins. | |

| Re: Holiday baking Anyone doing any baking? This week I'm going to be making buckeyes (and freezing them) and maybe some fudge.

| Re: Holiday baking I'm making "church windows" this week and hiding it from the kids for a little while or else it will all be gone before Christmas.

| Re: Holiday baking I'm making cookies this year, but not till next week. I have finals for school this week so I just don't have the time. I would love to have all my roll-out cookies done and then just decorate them next week, but it's not going to happen. | |

| Re: Holiday baking I'm going to attempt to make homemade cookies this year. Do you normally cook them and then frost them a few days later? Somehow I feel slightly doomed ![]()

| Re: Holiday baking I've done it both ways bbnbama. I'll bake them and freeze unfrosted or frost and then freeze. I'm also going to make the cranberry almond bread someone posted a week or so ago.

| Re: Holiday baking Me too. I'll sometimes just bake them a couple weeks early, freeze them, and frost closer to Christmas. I usually make a lot of them so it's a couple of days process for me. It's fine to bake and frost on the same day though. ![]() | |
