I get such a good feeling when someone calls me and says "I tried your recipe and OMG, it was sooooo good", or at a gathering you are credited for a great dish.
And on the other side of that, I always love making a recipe from a good friend or family member. I have several from those that have already passed on, so when I make their recipe, I always remember them fondly. It's like it ties me to them even though they are gone and I'm perpetuating their cooking reputations.

I wasn't sure whether I should put this here or in the Thanksgiving thread, but anyway...

I've always, always loved pies, and my favorite of them all is cherry. My mom also loves to make pies and she's very good at it. Once I started as well, there's been some mild competition for the family pie champ. Awhile back, I decided to make a cherry pie, but when I went into my mom's recipe box, there were three recipes. I grabbed one at random, since she wasn't around, and the pie came out very well, but it was somewhat different from hers. In any event, this became the new go-to recipe for cherry pie.

Fast forward to the night before Thanksgiving a few years ago-- when I went to make the pie, there was no sign of the recipe. Not in the recipe box, not in her pile of Thanksgiving recipes, nowhere. I searched high and low (and my sister did too), but eventually I just had to try to guess the quantities and make it from memory.

Well, the next day, between dinner and dessert, I'm clearing off the kitchen table to make room for dirty dishes, and as I move the Thanksgiving recipe pile, I see the recipe which a day earlier was nowhere to be found. Accusations of sabotage were met with denial but with hysterical laughter as well, so I've never managed to figure out whether it was purposely hidden or what, but we do have a good laugh about this every year.

In fact, maybe I ought to go hide the recipe now, so that I know where it is when I go to make the pie.

Re: What Are You Known For

Funny story Missyboxers! My favorite cherry pie recipe is Martha Stewarts Sour Cherry Pie recipe. I even make the lattice top and it looks so impressive but also very fun to make!

Re: What Are You Known For

with friends I give full complete recipe, and it is fun getting girls together and all of us trying out new stuff, with mother, sisters in law and mother in law - they are on their own. recipe boxes around here are sacred. you would no more peek at ma's recipe box then you would go through her underwear drawer.
