This is my Mother's Day present! (kinda/sort . . . my on/off button is different) I think they (husband and daughter) wanted an ice cream maker as much as I did!!
Seems like it takes a bit of prep work. Definitely can't just plug it in and expect ice cream 20 minutes later, but I'm looking forward to our first home made ice cream social!
Anybody have experience with this machine? Feel free to share your favorite recipe.
Re: Kitchen Gadgets and Gizmos
The trick is to get the core piece really cold - like overnight, and don't rush the cooling process of the ingredients. If either of these isn't right, you get mush and it never gets made into ice cream. You can freeze the whole she-bang and try to catch it at the right point where the paddle will still turn, but you're better off being patient in the first place. Have fun thinking of unusual flavors! We liked avacado - a little unsual and really rich, pumpkin with pumpkin pie spice, cinnamon, roasted hazelnut. Most of them we found recipes on-line, so do a search and see what you find.

Thanks Gut!
We have an additional freezer that is just a freezer (as opposed to the one that shares space with your fridge). The bowl is in there, in the back, on the bottom shelf. Cold air falls, right? Figured that's the coldest place I have.
Don't keep heavy cream in the house all the time, so I'll need to hit the grocery store to make the frozen custard I've been hungry for.

Heading out tomorrow to do some shopping, including a stop at a Fresh Market/World Market store where I hope to pick up some vanilla bean pods. My local Food Lion does not carry such things!
If I ever feel adventurous enough to try Avocado Ice Cream, I will let you know. Tonight - our first attempt - will be fresh strawberry.

So, how was the strawberry ice cream, Little Sew& Sew?
Re: Kitchen Gadgets and Gizmos
You can't go wrong with fresh strawberries and cream. Yum!
Re: Kitchen Gadgets and Gizmos
The Cuisinart works wonderfully.
The texture/creaminess/consistency of the ice cream was perfect.
It really was ready in 20 MINUTES - just like it says on the box!
There was not a great deal of strawberry flavor, but I think that was mostly our fault for not following the directions exactly.
They tell you to blend/chop/puree the berries in a food processor. We didn't do that and the flavor seemed to be concentrated only where there was a piece of fruit instead of being spread throughout. Also, if they pieces of fruit are bigger than a small lima bean, it's going to be really noticeable as a chunk of solidly frozen fruit. I kept pushing them aside and eating the ice cream only until they softened up a bit.
The two small scoops of ice cream that were leftover kept well. Finished them off last night.
I'm thinking COFFEE is our next flavor.

You can use it to make slushy drinks too. I like lemonade or fruit drinks in the summer months. Refreshing! I put the liquid in the freezer to get it extra cold before putting it into the Cusininart.
