General Food Talk

Think of this as "Koffee Klatch" for foodies. Anything goes as long as it's food-related.

You rule Marleybone! Now stop working and enjoy your birthday!!

On topic, Vienna Sausages were brought up in the recipe thread. I've never been able to stomach them at all. My son used to beg for them when he was a toddler and now he won't go near them!

I've seen Vienna Sausages in the store but have never bought them. I have eaten Lil Smokies. Are they similar?

Re: General Food Talk

I remember Vienna Sausages and "potted meat" being pretty common in college, back in the day. My roomie used to eat all of that stuff. Crackers were a must.

I think Lil Smokies are more flavorful than Vienna Sausages. Those things have no taste to them at all IMO.

Re: General Food Talk

Has anyone ever eaten cow brains? My son has ordered the tacos de cabeza and it is cow brains and he loves them. I don't think I could even try to eat them unless I had no idea what was in there.

It's actually not the brains but the head. Doesn't taste bad but greasy - really greasy.

From wiki
Quote:
* Tacos de Cabeza or head tacos, in which there is a flat punctured metal plate from which steam emerges to cook the head of the cow. These inclue: Cabeza, a serving of the muscles of the head; Sesos ("brains"); Lengua ("tongue"); Cachete ("cheeks"); Trompa ("lips"); and, Ojo ("eye"). Tortillas for these tacos are warmed on the same steaming plate for a different consistency. These tacos are typically served in pairs, and also include salsa, onion and cilantro with occasional use of guacamole.[8][9]
