I love that at 4 you demanded artichokes!

    And that sandwich sounds divine.

I have a recipe for a Gruyère puff, but it's hard to make, so I don't make it often.

I just bought one of those recipe books at the checkout at the grocery, but it has some amazing recipes for grounbeef. I'll let you all know what the keepers are.

Apparently I had tastes for different foods from a young age-- my parents tried to teach me to say "I have sophisticated culinary tastes" when I was still young enough to be taught to say something. I can't remember some of the things I tried early on, but alas.

My parents liked to tell people they had the only 5 year old that would eat raw oysters. My daughter was the only 3 year old t hat I knew that ate escargot and lobster. The kid would not eat hamburgers or hot dogs, but preferred the expensive stuff. Of course, her tastes have always been expensive.

I must stay away from Fresh Market. Besides the great coffee I'm addicted too, they have a lemon orzo pasta salad that is too die for. Has orzo, grape tomatos, some green stuff (parsley?? maybe spinach?) and pine nuts (LOVE pine nuts). So after eating several containers of it over the past few weeks, I decided, you know what would be good in this?? Feta cheese. I added some and it was great. Today decided, black olives would make it even better.

So now I have bought it and have added feta and black olives and it's FABOO!!!! I must send Fresh Market an email telling them they should add these ingredients.

I also got their yummy butternut squash and apple soup again. This store is too much. I'm going to end up the Ellen of my Fresh Market.

they had Godiva valentine chocolate 50% off too.

Guess who this made think of?

Do you shop at Trader Joe’s?

From what I have seen, the world is divided into three sets of people.

    1. Those who have never been to a Trader Joe’s, and perhaps have never heard of it.

    2. Those who love Trader Joe’s more than they love their own families.

    3. Those who love Trader Joe’s more than they love their own families and are incensed that there isn’t one nearby.

So, let me ask those of you who fall into categories 2 and 3: Who owns Trader Joe’s?

    1. Some great California family full of surfers and gardeners.

    2. A small band of communal farmers in Oregon.

    3. A huge German discount-grocery chain best known in the U.S. for no-glamor stores often located in marginal neighborhoods.

They're owned by Aldi's, known as the Wal Mart of Germany.

I've never been into an Aldi's but I have driven past one.

Maybe could march in front of one, with a handmade sign on a stick and chant "Trader Joe's! Trader Joe's!"?
Hell, they probably wouldn't get it.

Interesting. I never would have thought of La Jolla or Laguna Beach or Solana Beach as "marginal neighborhoods."

That article is 5 years old. Maybe they have a new marketing strategy now.
