    I got a free sample of the pomegranate - blueberry sparkling juice a few months ago and really liked it. For me, it would be just a treat, since I don't drink anything with sugar in it and I stay away from artificial sweeteners, but it's yummy stuff.

    Shopping lists: I make a note of anything I absolutely NEED to get so I don't walk out of the store without it, but other than that, I wing it. Since it's just me and I'm not on a restrictive budget, my main constraints are my diet. I stroll right past the cheeses and deli when you first walk in and then spend most of my time in produce. I'll occasionally get a shrimp ring or some crab meat if I haven't had animal protein in a while, but my next stop is coffee/tea then on to pet food, paper/toiletries, and frozen veggies. Since I don't eat processed foods, I can cut out 3/4 of the aisles! Yesterday the 50% off table had huge cans of chickpeas and an upscale spaghetti sauce, so I stocked up on those. I may even go back today and then start making my own hummus. I love hummus but I'm usually pretty lazy and get the packaged.

    ANYONE HAVE A HUMMUS RECIPE THEY LOVE?

    Easy Hummus

    Ingredients

    * 1 (15 ounce) can garbanzo beans, drained, liquid reserved
    * 2 cloves garlic, crushed
    * 1 teaspoon ground cumin
    * 1/2 teaspoon salt
    * 1-1/2 tablespoons tahini (can be omitted if you like)
    * cayenne pepper to taste (dash or two)
    * juice of 1 lemon, or to taste
    * 1 tablespoon olive oil

    Directions

    In a blender or food processor combine garbanzo beans, garlic, cumin, cayenne, salt, tahini, lemon juice, and olive oil. Blend on low speed, gradually adding reserved bean liquid, until desired consistency is achieved.

    Serve immediately with warm or toasted pita or cover and refrigerate.

    I have tried to make hummus many times. My kids don't like it as much as the $$ stuff. Typical kid reaction..

    I think I'll run back to the store and see if there are any of the chickpea cans left. They are the big, huge ones and at half price, 80 cents each. I never did try the roasted chickpeas everyone here loved, so I'll have to find that recipe, too. If anyone wants to bump it for this lazybones, she'd be grateful.

    Thanks everyone for your opinions on the sparkling juice. I'm sure we'll have it in our stores eventually.....probably around the time that it becomes old news.

    Sad to say I'm not enjoying any of the coconut water varieties. I think I'll use them up in fruit blendered smoothies.

    Livin, try making the hummus with cannilini beans. They are milder. Also the olive oil makes a difference.
    Some of the cheaper ones are more bitter. I wish I could afford better olive oil.

    You are so right about the OO, mrd!

    Use EVO or EEVO. Buy the best you can, but know that EVO is better tasting in uncooked dishes.
