Another restaurant I absolutely hate is TGIF. The food is mediocre and the service sucks. I've only been to the one right outside of town here but I've not read great reviews about food or service anywhere in the country.
Applebee's as well. I like their food but for the price it's not that great.

They change their menu all the time to get fresh ingredients that go with the season. Plus, they support local farms and sellers, so everything is good and fresh.
There's a place that only serves what is grown on the island on their menu. I saw it on Anthony Bourdain but cannot remember whether it's in Canada or someplace else. I'll have to look and see. It sounds really good.

I feel that way about Ruby Tuesdays. Expensive food that sucks. For the same price I can get GREAT fresh food at one of the local eateries.
I will say that one chain I really like is P.F. Changs. As we have found no local Chinese restaruant here to be very good at all, P.F. Changs is excellant. But the only thing I've really eaten there is the wok seared lamb which is to die for. And their lettuce wraps. But I've only eaten there twice. I wish we could find a local Chinese place that delivered and the food was good.
We have been lucky to have a local Mexican restaraunt that is VERY good. And it's so authentic that when we call in a takeout order, my husband usually has to use his very limited Spainish in order to place the order because they can never understand us and vice versa. I won't call in an order with them anymore as I don't even have a limited Spanish vocabulary and me and the person on the phone were both getting frustrated. Hubby also likes to go eat there as they have a Happy Hour with a Dos Equis beer that is swimming pool size for $2. It's a happy hour that makes him VERY happy. If ONLY we could get them to understand gucamole on the side means JUST guacamole and not shredded lettuce, a sliced tomato with guac on top. You get the lettuce and tomato regardless. :)

We have a local mexican restaurant that is very small but the food is amazing! Homemade tortillas and salsa. We try to eat there at least once a month as it's within walking distance from the house.
I dont' know if this place makes it's own tortillas or not, but the tortilla chips are freshly made and so is the salsa. It's great salsa. And their tamales are my favorite. I LOVE tamales.Quote:

We only ate there as we were starving and it was right there and we used to like Don Pablos a long time ago (probably when we didn't know any better. :) )
Lucy, I'm not a good biscuit maker anyway, so if it weren't for bisquick we probably wouldn't have biscuits.
I prefer almost any restaurants bread to mine as I don't make good yeast rolls either. I now buy my yeast rolls for Thanksgiving.
The spoonbread is finally on the menu for tonight! I just haven't had a chance yet to try it.
But tonight we are having country fried steak (hubby's fav, I hate making it as I think it stinks up the kitchen) and I thought the spoonbread would go great with that.
:drool I LOVE chicken fried steak! I had some at the casino buffet on Saturday with gravy!!
The buffet at the casino is really good here! Sometimes we go there just to have the food and gamble just a little bit.
When we have these biscuits at home I just make a basic sour cream drop biscuit and add 1/2 cup or so of cheddar cheese. Then when they come out of the oven I brush them with a butter/garlic powder/parsley mixture. I haven't been to Red Lobster in a long time so I'm not sure how closely they taste like the original. But I use the sour cream drop variety because they're really moist and not fall-apart-flaky like biscuits usually are.Quote:

As far as restaurants, most of my favorites are local places too. I don't mind Chili's because they're pretty consistent and the kids love them. The only other chain I go to regularly is Carrabba's. I'm sure it's frozen stuff too but they make a good show of preparing it behind the counter. :lol
Houston has the best Taqueria's so I'm never hurting for a good Mexican place to go to. We've had mostly misses with Chinese food (although there are a bunch of good Vietnamese Dim Sum places, weird). One place near us that is decent is called The Rooster and their dining room is always empty but the line for take out is consistently three or four people deep. And Yao Ming's Chinese restaurant isn't half bad, either.
Will you share your biscuit recipe? I am determined to one day make good biscuits.
