Virtually any restaurant in Vegas.. When we were there the food was amazing. Portions were admittedly huge, but the food itself all tasted so good.

    Re: Restaurants

Ate at a new "meat and three" the other day. I can never makeup my mind on the "three", so I just order the veggie plate and skip the meat. I had creamed corned, black eyed peas, okra and sweet potatos. Fabulous. Will be going back there.

3 sides? Like potatoes or veggies or pasta.

    Re: Restaurants

A meat and three is a restuarant that offers an entree like fried chicken, pot roast, country fried steak, etc. and you get to choose 3 sides usually from a very long list. I always like the sides better than the meat.
Sides usually include mashed potatos, fried okra, beans of some sort like blacked eyed peas, butter beans, etc., creamed corn, sweet potatos, squash casserole, salad, jello, baked apples, potato salad, cole slaw, etc.

They call them meat and three restaurants here because you choose your meat and then you get to choose 3 sides. They are always locally owned home cooking type restaurants. The best kind.

ETA: Pasta is rarely included as a side. This is the South you know.

I was thinking the same thing about the "pasta", there's good old creamy baked mac-n-cheese but it's almost always considered one of the veggie sides here in the south!

In my house fresh fruit includes apple pie, carrot cake, banana creme pie. As long as you eat it the first day it's made, it's fresh!

Ha - wasn't that the same concept (re-invented) in that book "Deceptively Delicious"? And if I were at your house, there would be no worries of those "fresh fruits and veggies" making it past the first day.

Ha! Forgot about mac and cheese and yes it's one of the sides. But I never think of mac and cheese as being pasta in the classic sense.

And a meat and three you will see mac and cheese and you might see macaroni salad, but you will NOT see any other pasta. And only rarely do you see rice.

Here's a link to a menu of a place we eat at occasionally. Make sure you look at the list of vegetables or sides. I have a hard time picking, which is why I get the veggie plate because then I get FOUR sides.

Pugmom, I am at your definition of fresh fruit and veggies.
