    Great Ratings!

Fame apparently got very close to the Nielsen ratings for the American Idol premier (first season). They also got the highest ratings for any Summer reality show premier other than Meet My Folks (although I'm not sure why that show got high ratings).

Edited by John, because now I've pasted the official ratings release a few posts down.

That's good news! I think the ratings will only improve as word-of-mouth about the impressive nature of this show continues to spread. Ratings should also climb as more and more American Idol diehards loosen up a bit and decide to give this show a chance...

I agree. They seem to have really listened to critics. They took the parts of reality shows like AI All American Girl, etc. that people liked (judges, big numbers, voting, group numbers, etc.) and got rid of what people didn't like (filler crap, excessive promos, advertising like crazy). The only problem this show has in my opinion is an awful host (Joey). Fortunately, wonderful Debbie and some great judges (well, two out of three ain't bad - JoJo needs to go-go) really make up for his poor performance. Maybe he just needs practice and will get better with time. Ryan from AI really seemed to get better with time because he and that other guy were horrible on the first season.

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - NBC's talent series "Fame" had a solid premiere Wednesday, propelling NBC to a nightly win in total viewers and adults 18-49.

The show, featuring Debbie Allen, danced up to 10.6 million viewers and a 4.5 rating/13 share among adults 18-49 from 8-10 p.m., the largest total audience for a summer reality series premiere in two years.

In the demo, "Fame" came close to the opening numbers of Fox's "American Idol" (9.9 million, 4.8/14) in June.

For the night, capped by a "Law & Order" rerun, NBC logged 11.1 million viewers and a 4.5/13 in 18-49. CBS (10.8 million, 3.0/9) was close second in total viewers with "Funny Flubs" special, "60 Minutes" and "48 Hours." ABC (7.7 million viewers, 3.1/9) and Fox (6.7 million, 3.1/9) finished tied for second in 18-49.
