Ya Mel, they said on last nights show... no lifts. It was a one time deal. That was part of the strange part of the judging last night, as they called out the change, back to the "no lifts" policy at the beginning and then Jason and Edyta had at least one lift and possibly a second place where her feet came off the ground.

I have a question and I would like to know everybody's honest answer. Do not try to read anything into the question.

Do you believe that the producers decide who is let go each week? In other words, online/phone votes are tallied and judges' scores are recorded, but then they have a producers' meeting and "script" the ouster according to what they feel would be best for ratings?

Susan, I think that is entirely possible. I don't know if it is true, but there are times.... I truly wonder.

At times you have to wonder if they chose who they wanted to win before anyone danced?

The reason I ask is that it would seem to make sense that the network pulls the strings. It is a TV show, after all, a very lucrative one at that for ABC, and they could hardly be expected to have it just cruise along at the whim of the people who tirelessly dial into/log onto voting lines. Therefore I believe they sit down each week and make a strategic decision about which scenario will build their ratings and make for maximum watercooler chatter.

There have been times when I wondered about that. Especially when that ABC soap star won the first season - I was shocked that she won over the guy from Seinfeld (his name is escaping me at the moment). On the other hand I thought it was much more unlikely based on Sabrina's ouster last season. It may have made for a dramatic elimination and some watercooler chatter, but Sabrina is a big Disney starlet. It would have behooved the Disney/ABC-machine to keep her in the mix as long as possible.

ITA, it was the Sabrina incident that made we question whether there is manipulation, but that said, there is no such thing as bad publicity and perhaps that "shocking" ouster actually brought in more viewers and gave Sabrina even more face time. I do think that they don't just keep the viewers favorites, but try to stir the pot, to keep it from going stale.

No. The show has little enough credibility as it is with people staying too long at the party. There would be no profit in cheating like this and the fallout would be too great WHEN the manipulation was discovered and revealed.

Re: 5/12 Show Discussion **Spoilers**

Supposedly, Maks has said that the producers have the option of changing the outcome of the finale. I haven't been able to find where he said this so take it for whatever it's worth. Anyway, given that in every season some real stinkers go much farther than they probably should have, I doubt the votes themselves are manipulated. But there's nothing to keep them from manipulating in other ways (propping up a contestant, song choices, etc.).

Well... unfortunately that's illegal (remember Quiz Show?) That's why all of these shows have independent auditors tallying the results.
