I don't look at her departure as intentional by either the fans or the judges or producers anymore than the fact that Roshon was in the bottom two. At this point in the season many people are not yet voting, and many that are voting are voting for underdogs (like Gavin, Gladys, Jeleel) to keep them on the show. Once the first "surprise departure" happens people start to vote more often and these votes go to the serious contenders, not underdogs.
So I don't read too much into this in regard to intentional effort to oust her.
I wonder how close it was between her and Roshon. Sherri had to dance first, so that small disadvantage might have done her in. There were many things about that last dance that were uninspiring, any one of which could have saved her if done better, such as the music, costumes, emotion, connection with Val.
Regarding emotion of that dance, some have commented. I know of Sherri only from the Newlywed Game, so this was my expectation: host of Newlywed Game that specializes in humor and sexual induendo dances the tango with Val. Just imagine that for a moment. You would expect something special--what could be more appropriate than the tango for Sherri and Val? But the dance was boring. Yes, she was trying really hard and did okay job, but missed potential.
Overall, she was in the bottom half of those that remain so whether she left now or in three weeks doesn't bother me too much other than feeling sad for her since she was so emotionally invested in this show.
