I would very much doubt if lifting Amber would have caused this injury. Male ballroom dancers are extremely strong, similar to male gymnasts. He's got an old injury as many of them do and anything could tweak it, including lifting Amber, but also including leaning the wrong way.
Much as I don't like how he is treated differently from the other male pros, I hate to see any of them injured and I wish him a speedy recovery.
Watching her dance again, her footwork was **foxing awesome** :)
Amber finally got her well deserved 10 from Len, but Bruno was the hold out. Two best dancers in this competition imo are Amber and Corbin and I find it a shame that neither have gotten their perfect score.
I worry about both Derek and Amber and their injuries. Hope both of them get better real soon. The way they danced the Paso last night you would never have known. They really danced through their pain. :clap :clap fantastic job!!!
That freestyle was fantastic! She just owned it, and each dancer was so on point. I really thought Corbin had this won, but Amber's freestyle may just get her that mirror ball trophy. Much like last year when Kellie's freestyle sealed her win. Derek's incredible work cannot be denied!
The thing I loved about her freestyle, as one of the judges mentioned, was that it featured Amber front and center. One of the things that usually annoys me about Derek is that he tends to choreograph to feature himself. I give him credit for stepping aside, at times blending in to be just another background dancer, and letting Amber shine.
I disagree, I think Derek has always been able to play to the strengths of his partner and showcase them so well. That is why he has won, and perhaps others have not.
He did that with Kellie and she won. Amber is totally different, yet he managed that as well. Even with the threesome dance, he said he wanted them to be the back up dancers for Amber, and they did it! :biglove Seeing her back in week three, I realise how hard all this must have been for her, her knees were so bad.She lights up the room, I hope she continues to dance, because it's part of who she is now. She isn't just a singer
Yes, Derek choreographs to play to the strengths of his partner. But he also choreographs to highlight his own strengths -- at times covering up a partner's weaknesses by helping the audience to focus on him instead. I'd agree that he's won because of this approach. Someone like Tony probably would have stuck around longer with some of his weaker partners had he played the camera angles up as well to cover up when a partner is not dancing very well. But most of the dances that Derek is a part of, his partner may be memorable, but HE is very memorable as well. I think the big difference in teh freestyle with Amber last night was that it was ALL Amber.
But they all do that. Val takes off his shirt, someone wears a skimpy ( really skimpy )outfit, its all about looking at them, not who they are dancing with. I find other pros do that far more than Derek. Jmho of course :) Derek cant help he has a gift, dance and choreography, that's pretty hard to dumb down
