I know that I have a couple of things that I did 20 years ago (nothing horrible, but slightly embarrassing). When people bring them up AGAIN, I just want to sigh and ask them to get a life. I'm with you.

And I've been there, done that, too.

But, once I say I'm done with something, it's over, then, I'm DONE. I'M not going there, and don't YOU try to pull me there with you, either, 'cause I said what I meant, and I'm DONE.

And I can show you better than I can tell you, if I have to.

Maybe it ain't the PERFECT way to handle somebody trying to pull me back into the Dark Ages, but it's worked for me so far.

Jaleel even said that he began to be treated differently on the street after Stephan character. Before that, he was probably always someone that people laughed at.
Your post makes a lot of sense to me. We already know that child-actors seem to struggle later in life. All the while they're young, when most kids are learning how to behave and learning who they are as people, child-actors are instead learning how to be 'somebody else', how to be 'what other people want you to be', and they also learn to be the center of attention, often. I think it messes them up.

Add to that the difficulty that children must have when playing geek-characters. Children don't want to be thought of as "geeks" themselves,... it's the last thing they want. And so when most of the viewing public identifies the actor by the geek-character he played, he ends up with everybody thinking he's something that he NEVER wants to be. Think of Screech on "Saved By the Bell"... he ended up in the porn industry.

So, all I'm saying is that child-actors have it tough.

That doesn't excuse any type of violence or rudeness to professionals paying you to learn something. But I guess we just don't know if that ever actually happened. Jaleel and Mark say it didn't. A rag magazine says it did.

For me, the issue is how Jaleel seems to be handling the heightened attention he's getting. I'd argue that ALL of the contestants are dealing with more attention from the paparazzi and no one else is whining to the press about it. Maybe I'm wrong about that, but I don't think there have been stories about any of the other celebs complaining about the press. Really though, if he doesn't like it, he can go be a construction worker and see what it's like to do a real job.

He had a reputation back during Family Matters for being a bit difficult. You'd think, since most people haven't seen anything he's down since then, that he'd be more happy about getting attention and that he'd be working hard to give a good impression. DWTS can boost or revive careers. He's not being very smart in how he's using the opportunity.

If he did, in fact, call Kym a baby, then he needs to get a freaking grip. That girl is tough as nails. She may be teeny tiny, but she's a helluva lot stronger than he is. Whatever the circumstance, his lashing out at his partner is not cool. That feels like shades of Jake and how he treated Chelsie.

Re: Jaleel White & Kym Johnson - Season 14

There are just a lot of things about Jaleel that don't add up: the rumored "incident", the unusual crying, the complaints about cameras and paparazzi, fixation on Urkel/Stephan, interaction with Kym looks phony, etc. While I usually give people the benefit of the doubt in this case I'm now skeptical of anything Jaleel says or does.

The "I don't want to be Urkel" issue is the most silly to me. There is absolutely only one reason he was asked to be on this show, and it is because he played Urkel for many years. Extremely few people know anything about Jaleel, they know only about Urkel. Urkel is his ticket to this show. Yet it seems that Jaleel's goal coming on the show is to prove he is not Urkel. Hard to have it both ways.

Ironically, all his erratic behavior reminds me of what a grown-up Urkel would act like.

As far as selection of the Stephan character as his most dramatic year, I don't fault him for this. We see it only as a character he played, but maybe for him it was symbolic of a year when everything changed for him. I don't doubt it could have been a major milestone in his life.

As far as why TPTB haven't shown clips of the incident, there are two possible innocent reasons: they missed the shot, or they plan to show it next week. Even if they missed the shot they could have covered it with a retrospective interview clip, and did not. As far as next week, we'll know soon enough. I'm sticking with my theory that TPTB have the footage but have decided not to show the clips in the best interest of the show, leaving us to speculate what that means.

So true. I'd be happy to go on DWTS for a guarantee of $100,000+ for a few months' work, and the paparazzi would be welcome to film me as much as they want. They'd all die of boredom, because I don't act like an entitled, ungrateful has-been who is being paid a lot of money to learn to DANCE.

It would be interesting to see what would happen if a "star" like Jaleel, Khate, or Jake were offered the same amount of money to work in an anonymous job for as long as it would take for a regular person to EARN that amount. See how much they would complain if there were no paps, no limos, no bright lights and audiences who applauded on cue.

The rehearsals are filmed by a camera operator – a staff member of ABC/DWTS. It’s not like hordes of “papparazi” and flashbulbs when a big star comes out of a restaurant.

I see nothing wrong with it, and all the celebs are aware in advance that they will be filmed.

He knew all this going in, and I think he loves the camera. His manager was very quick to issue a statement after the incident didn't happen.

I never watched Family Matters, and had minimal realization that this "Urkel" character even existed. I had no idea who Jaleel White was when he was announced as part of the cast for DWTS this year.

Since then, I've read how he was a diva during the filming of FM and have observed his behavior on DWTS. He reminds me a lot of Khate. Totally self-absorbed and thinking the world revolves them . . . which is hysterically funny when one considers neither of them has a body of work that would qualify them as "stars" by any stretch of the imagination. Textbook narcissists.

He's definitely like Kate in that she whined and complained about how the press covered her after she worked so hard to be famous. You can't dictate how the press portrays you. Jaleel should have known better and, like someone mentioned upthread, he knew what he was getting into. I'm sure all of this stuff is covered in his contract.

I have no sympathy for Jaleel at all. He gets 6 figures to dance with a cute blond on TV for a few months. So what if the cameras are there during all of the rehearsals? What that tells me is that he is working very hard to project an image on camera. It's probably exhausting if he's trying to pretend to be a nice guy all day. I guess I'm glad for Kym that he camera are there. Who knows how he'd treat her if there weren't cameras?

I'm sure there are millions of guys who'd trade places with him in a heartbeat and ABC wouldn't need to pay them!

Oh, and the fake crying? Just pathetic and more than a bit creepy. Totally textbook narcisist

I have to agree with both POV here: Jaleel's behavior is really bad and should probably get him kicked off the show. At the same time, I can understand his lack of coping skills. So few child stars seem to come out of that experience intact.

Melissa seems OK, but it sounds like the children were actually treated like children on the set of LHOP. Also, I don't remember her being in the press too much. I'm her age and wanted to read about her in Tiger Beat, et al., but I don't remember seeing anything. So hopefully she was being shielded from all that by her parents.
