Why would Kelly be getting block voting? What sort of fan base has she got? As far as I can tell, the majority of people who watch this show were trepidatious that she would be dancing, feeling that she was just some obnoxious, drugged up punk princess who was by no means a star, but have come to appreciate her personality and work ethic over the course of the season. On the other hand, Mya apparently, for reasons I cannot quite comprehend, has some sort of squeeing fan-girl contingent who have been following her dancing/singing career for years. Anyone with the squeeing fans is going to be the lucky recipient of block voting - just the way it is.

Some have compared her to Mya. I think Mya, with the background she has, is in a league of her own.
And, sorry, but I don't think Joanna would have faced off at all well to Mya in the final.
Again (again), no one is really comparing her dance ability to Mya's. The point many are making about Mya is that no one can compare to her because she has too much dance experience; thus, sitting through the entire season (and 15 other couples!) was kind of pointless if she was destined to win the trophy before Day One. She shouldn't have been cast in the first place.

I jumped on the Joanna bandwagon about midway through the season for 3 reasons: 1) I'm a big Derek fan; 2) I didn't see The Superstars, and I saw no evidence of the "Satan's spawn" others were talking about in any of her behavior while on DWTS; 3) Her dancing improved to the point where she was one of the few celebs left who could at least make it look like an honest competition against The Ringer.

I don't really plan on following Joanna's career now that she's done, but she served a good purpose on the show. The work she put into her dancing, and the way she improved during the season (like Kelly), is the kind of story that makes the show interesting. Whereas Mya has been breezing through the season like a person with no worries, batting her eyelashes at the judges and feigning humility at every high score. This kind of celeb sours the viewing expereince for me.

I doubt the overweight masses of America were identifying with Joanna. I doubt they voting for Mya in masses. If we talking demographics no question in my mind Kelly gets votes from many of the women that can identify with her weight struggles. No question by far more than any of the other contestants.

First of all, there are more overweight people than there are thin people in the US today. Size 2 is not the 'norm' or 'average'. Size 12 or 14 is. That said, I fall in the size 6 catergory and I vote for Kelly every week. I don't even look at a persons weight or skin color when I vote. I voted for Mel B who is black. I voted for Merissa J who isn't a size 2. I voted for Kristi Y . I vote for who entertains me the most. I think most of America is like that as well. As for Kelly, people like a happy ending. Little rich girl goes from drug addict, hateful, unruly teenager to sober, poised and mature young lady. People respect her for ability to change the course of her life. If they are throwing her votes, its for that, not her weight issues.

That's how it was for me. I didn't like her at first, then she grew on me a little bit. I wouldn't want her back for an All Stars show, but I do respect her for her work ethic and support of other cast members. She tried her best each week and didn't skimp on the rehearsals. You can't ask more than that from a star. She gave a lot more than some of the stars they pick for the show. So, she may have her bitchy side, but I didn't really see it on DWTS's. All I saw was a hard working girl who tried. She's not a fave of mine, but I can't really say anything bad against her at this point.

I agree that Mya's dance background (minus the fact that she is already famous) would suit the cast of SYTYCD better, as I understand that the dancers on that show tend to specialize in one genre and are expected to "cross over" and attempt other styles of dance. I believe 3 of our pros, Chelsie, Dmitry and Lacey came from here. Correct me if I'm wrong, but were they not each specialists in some form of ballroom dance prior to being on SYTYCD? Would DWTS ever take a jazz or hip hop specialist from SYTYCD who had learned some ballroom on the show and offer them a role as one of their pros?
This is my first season to watch SYTYCD. It's amazing how similar their contestants look when they take their supposedly one type of dance and parlay into almost every other kind of dance to Mya doing the exact same thing. It is especially noteworthy when I compare that to the fact that the other contestants on DWTS ( all of them but Mya) can't begin to do the same thing regardless of how much or how little dance has played as a secondary part of their careeer - as in dancing on skates, dancing in gymnastics, dancing as part of boy band, or even dancing as a professional cheerleader.

None of the SYTYCD contestants really have trouble learning and performing the dances; even the street dancers leap through the air and do pirouettes. It is just a matter of what the judges want to nitpick.
Can our dancers jump in and easily do those kinds of things? Heck no! If their names are not Mya, most of them struggle to do what we see each week.

(although Carrie Anne has never given a solo dance performance the Kennedy Center, a bell weather measurement for achievement in American culture). To be factual (and arguably fair), Mya has far more professional dance experience than does Anna, Michale's partner. As I've noted earlier, just last year she competed in the amateur division of the renowned ballroom competition in Blackpool, UK. She came in 41st as an amateur.

I had to read the last part of this note a couple of times before it really sunk in.
So the big blonde (bottle variety), Anna, presumably from one of the former Soviet Republics since it seems like that's the only place where they mint dancers for this show (other than Corky Ballas' house) came in 41st in an amateur competition in Blackpool last year? Wow, Michael never had a chance.
Open letter to the fat cats at ABC and the BBC:
    Dear idiots,
Please put down your big cigars and listen. You are blowing it.
While I am rather busy sticking my nose into your business and then tattling to my friends at FORT, as well as trying to earn a modest living in the real world, I believe I could free up some time to fix your show which is currently in a nose dive.
As Producer, my to do list would be:
    1. Fire Carrie Ann, staple Bruno to his chair, and melt Xanax in Len's prune juice.
    2. Spend 15 minutes on the phone assembling a better cast than what you guys trotted out this year.
    3. Artificially inseminate Samantha Harris and bring back Drew Lachey.
    4. Fire the band. I think the guys currently doing the Leno show will soon be available.
    5. Give Tom Bergeron a raise.
    6. As part of the finals, force every contestant to speak for 3 minutes about the things that they think are important. Donny will speak on religion, family, and hard work. Kelly will speak on family, rehab, and small dogs. Mya will talk about Mya, why the judges don't always get Mya, how to apply false eyelashes, and the things Dmitry needs to improve upon.
    7. Send Mya home and forget that this ever happened.
When my checks are due, I will likely be in a place that doesn't air the show, but I know it will be much improved so send them anyway.

    SDL,

    You are too, too funny.

Before we blame the producers for Anna, though, TPTB paraded out a slew of dancers and left it up to the Viewers to, once again, vote for their favorite!
    Anna was the viewer's favorite.

I think that the audience would be outraged*, and rightfully so. And so goes the feeling for Mya.

Plus, while she's proficient in her dance, she is not at all interesting to watch. And her singing? Yikes!

*With one exception - you know who you are .
Ahem but Donny Osmond has been both performing and Dancing longer than Mya has been on this earth. I am a few years younger than Donny and he and Marie did lots of dancing and singing on the Donny & Marie show. Donny is a performer on stage and some could say that gives him an edge over the rest of the contestants also.

I guess A celebrity is only a ringer when it's someone you don't want to win. You can not be a ringer if the show has no rules that say you can have never danced before. This whole thing is just too funny. Poor Mya the world just doesn't want her to have that tacky mirrored ball.

Anna winning that pro contest surprised me. But, in the end, they more or less shoved her down our throats and treated the runner up guy like crap. I do like Anna, though she wasn't even close to being my favorite for that.

sdl, laughing at your post. I heard a scary rumor today that Levi Johnston claims he was asked for the show but turned them down. Knowing that the little media hungry troll wouldn't pass down a chance to be on a show like this and extend his 15 seconds of fame beyond The Insider and showing up wherever the cameras are, I didn some digging. Thankfully it's reported one of his bodyguards (?) started the rumor. Also about him being on Survivor. I expect Trump will probably cast him for The Apprentice. But ABC laughed it off.

I am very aware of the Osmond history, albeit not remotely a fan. However my post was in response to your post about Mya. Everyone else is irrelevant in that context.
