If only she would show Louie how to dance instead of walking or just standing there.

it's his partner's fault--it is HER choreography--what little there is of it.
And again this week in the practice vid they showed her praising him for standing still!

Louie can move his body--he just needs someone who will actually show him how.

Go back and look at how few steps she gives him to do.

I am soooo ####ed off right now....

Her major problem as I see it is that she is not connected to her core--from where all strength and grace come from.

The core--abdomen and back and shoulders--all should work together for fluidity if movement. If her partner/teacher were any good he'd work with her on having all her movements arise in her core.

But it's obvious he has NO idea how to help her feel the music and then express it.

Too bad. IMO she coulda been a contenda if she'd had someone who really cared.
You very accurately describe the condition, but, in my opinion, this is as good as Melissa can be in a week, no matter the teacher and she had two this week. She had Shirley Ballas for at least a day, possibly more, and there is no finer ballroom teacher on the planet (although her performance specialty is Latin).

Over the years, I've worked with very competent amateur couples who have trouble with the waltz. It is the dance I'd prefer to teach first because if one learns proper postures for other traditional dances first, one must unlearn so much in order have the unnatural position for the waltz become second nature, particularly to the female partner. Melissa just had little chance this week. If you don't immediately get it, it takes a really, really long time to execute a proper waltz.

I could see the disappointment on her face for the scores she received because she obviously cared deeply about doing well. The choreography was very strong and much of her movement was very beautiful.

Peacheater--thanks. It's a problem of hers that I noted from her first dance.

I wish it had been addressed much earlier so that she could show some fluidity of movement in any/all her dances.

I didn't become aware of how important the core is in all movement until I became involved in athletic endeavors. I was raised to "be a lady" and not use my entire body in stable and strong movements--so I can see this in other women too.

BTW--Peacheater--thanks so much for all your commentary here--it is so satisfying to learn actual facts about ballroom dancing and judging etc. Just know your work here is much appreciated.

    Please don't stop.

I'm quickly losing interest in this season. My favorites at this point are Donnie and Kelly and it looks like they're pushing Joanna and Mya on us. Donnie has a decent shot of going farther but I'm getting a bad feeling after last night that they have a thing about Joanna. Can't stand her even with Derek as her partner. I really hope that Michael and Louis go tonight instead of Kelly. I know that she will likely go in the next 2 weeks but want to see another dance. I guess it's too much to hope that Aaron will go tonight.

I wondered if I was the only person who was bored with this season. Glad to know it's not just me! Someone said it earlier that (except for Kelly) these celebs have little personality. Then on top of that it's completely obvious that Mya, Joanna and Donny are the judges favorites. I seriously hope casting does a better job next season. With the cash the celebs make for doing this show, surely it can't be that hard to find some interesting people (preferably with no choreography experience ... I'm looking at you Mya!).

I am close to bailing out of this season. Last nite, I couldn't drum up much anticipation, and while watching, it was "ho hum" but I recorded some dances just in case, and no, erased them. Even watching Louie...even Bruno (whom I usually love)...of course Tom makes the show regardless of the cast, but still...blah. I miss Natalie, Kathy, Tony, and Edyta.

ETA: Love Kelly but have lost some enchantment with her performances, too.

To make matters worse , back when they did the MJ tribute, I messed up editting recordings and lost that performance. Plus I didn't record the pros' preliminary stuff. The good news is that I found all of that today on DWTS MJ tribute and preliminary interviews.

I wish Kelly and Michael would go tonight, but think it will be Michael and Louie. Kelly is not interesting to watch to me at all.

I also do not get the Joanna hype by the judges. She is not that good. Sure she can get out there and shake it, but her performance in the dance-off was boring to me.

I meant to mention that I really didn't like the Derek/Joanna move that I will dub "Repetitions of Lifting Limbo Partner By the Neck" or "Upside Down Dribbling of a Woman"...UGH! It had to be shown not only in rehearsal but in the Mambo Marathon.

I'm also not thrilled that Joanna is apparently going to do her second splayout in Playboy magazine. Do we really need to have at least one porn-related contestant in every season? (no, we don't)

Yes, that move was quite disgusting and distrubing, but so is she, so it's expected I guess!

No one really blew me away last night. Yeah, Joanna did good and I'll admit it as much as I don't want too! I liked Donny and Mya.

Micheal, I really liked him and thought he improved! I know he should leave tonight, but I just love him and his attitude towards the compeitition! So refreshing from that of Aaron or Joanna! So if he goes tonight, I'll actually be sad, but I know his time is up!

And a note on Samntha, when she asked, (I think Louie), "So, are you suprised you're still here?" I was like really? Why would you ask that? Like what was she expecting? "Oh yes, I am quite shocked to still be here!" Ugh, she just annoys me!

Yeah, I didn't want to mention Samantha, She-Who-Needs-To-Be-Off-TV.

Louie handled SWNTBOT well by being grateful for the fans and grateful to have another week on the show.

Oh look, my acronym for her has "BOT" in it. Coincidence? I think not.
