This dance off has proven to be pointless. I'm in agreement with those that could care less about seeing the two worst dances. Besides, it seems obvious who's going to probably be in the bottom in the coming weeks. Assuming they keep it going longer than last week, how old would it get seeing the same couple dance every week? Apparently America likes them enough to keep them in, even if it may be by a hair. I've always been more about the pro numbers. At least it makes sitting through an ear splitting musical guest worth it (or you can mute the TV but still watch them dance).

ITA. I have replayed the above performances numerous times. They were absolutely wonderful!
Edyta/Alec are always dreamy to watch together. The routine Karina and the guys put together was fantastic. I always love seeing how good these pros really are when they're with someone on their level and not a celeb holding them back. And of course, 'Maneater' is one of my favorites from the 80's

I wonder if Woz was actually in the bottom two, but Denise was so far behind that no matter what she was going home so they put Holly in the bottom two to redo her dance. I think there is no need to try and make who goes home fair based on fan votes because they do nothing as far as making sure the dancing abilities are fair. If a dancer can go vs. a nondancer than why can someone with huge fanbase not go against someone with none.

I have always wondered if the one saved each week was, in fact, in the bottom two. If I had to guess, I would say no, not always, because in the past I have certainly scratched my head at some that were in the bottom two and then would not be back in the bottom for weeks. I remember a couple of seasons ago when one couple was in the bottom two for a couple of week and then they were safe the following week, but then the next week they were voted off. It seem manipulated. JMO

If I recall correctly, in the past couple of seasons they haven't done a real bottom two in the first few weeks, just the pair that was the lowest (and gets eliminated) along with another pair that "may or may not" be bottom two, probably chosen for dramatic purposes. With the dance-off, they have to at least proclaim a bottom two, but I wouldn't put it past them to fudge on the second team, in this case Holly/Dmitry. I could especially see them doing it this week because with the two Steves injured, it spares them having to dance again. I really think they want to avoid more drop-outs due to injury.

Am I correct in remembering that last season two dancers were let go at the first elimination? I loved that, it seems to take the edge off the stigma of being the first to go. Plus, it can serve as moving things ahead and getting rid of some of the driftwood.

To me the dance off just seems to emphasize that the quality of dancing has little to do with the eliminations. The votes rule. I guess an argument COULD be made that some people watch in order to impact the results and would not like their vote to be marginalized? I too would like to see the votes counting only a third of the votes and I've watched every season, but voted rarely.

I may be wrong, but I thought that this time they specifically said "the bottom two", whereas for the last couple of seasons it wasn't necessarily the bottom two, just one was absolutely in the bottom two.

Put me on the list of those who don't care for the Dance Off.
Seeing a reprise of two of the lowest quality dances isn't working.

I liked the old way of seeing a reprise of one of the best dances. That way, if you missed it, you get a chance to see it & if you saw it & loved it, you get to see it again.

I also love the pro routines. The Maneater routine was HOT! And it really showed what the pros are capable of. I'd love to see more of those during the elimination shows.

Karina has always come off as pretty honest in her reactions. That's why she gets so many people cutting on her for occasionally having a "sour face" or a bad attitude. She's just more open with her reactions that the ones who hide it under a veneer (I'm looking at you, Julianne!).

BTW: Hall looks okay, but what the hell happened to Oates? Man, he looks rough.

I totally agree! The pros are amazing & I love to see what they can really do. Maks, Tony & Dmitry were in perfect sync with each other.... great routine all around.

That's probably why I much prefer Karina to Julianne. I wouldn't want either of them working in the cubicle next to mine, but for my entertainment buck, genuine petulance is of far greater value than candy-box pretty veneer.
