I had never heard of Albert, Josie or Cameron before the show started. I would imagine that many over 35s are in the same boat. Since the demographic for the show skews older, younger contestants need a "hook" from the start.

I guess this should prove that DWTS should not go for model eye candy hoping that it will last...go for the eye candy with the fan base and they'll stick around a long time! How about George Clooney, Halie Berry or even someone like the actress that plays Izzie on Grey's Anatomy?

While Clooney, Heigl, etal would be great audience magnets, they would never ( tho hate to use that word ) do it. They are too big, too busy to commit to DWTS. Most of these "stars" are at some break in their careers, Or are just starting their careers.

I think the producers never know who will breakout and grab the viewers. Jerry Rice and Emmitt did, but Clyde didn't. I think anyone who has even an ounce of athletic ability paired with Julianne would be successful, she has the best choreography and she is so pretty and talented, she is the "eye-candy".

I think the producers hoped Cam would be successful, but he is extremely limited in is abilities to dance. His fan base will save him for a few weeks, but when it gets down to serious dancing it will be his time to go.

It will be interesting to see if Helio can step it up like Apolo did last season.
Right now I think he is neck and neck with Sabrina, but at the end of the season Sabrina has the advantage because she is so skilled in dance. Conversely, nobody knows her partner (Mark) yet, so he won't have the fan base that Julianne has.

Well, DWTS hardly targets "A-list" celebrities as they would be much to busy for and way above something like a "reality show". But, I think the "celebrities" they do get can develop a fanbase if they are good. Sure Helio is well known in the "racing" world, but I doubt the audience of Indy Car racing overlaps much with DWTS.

Regarding the voting, it will always be viewed as a "popularity" contest because the mass public have different views of "good" and entertainment. This goes for SYTYCD, AI, DWTS and any other "fan-voted" shows. On AI and SYTYCD, I always vote for who I percieved to be the most talented and most entertaining. But, my perception of talent and entertainment will differ from millions of others.

On a "celebrity" based show, I vote on who is most entertaining to me. Good dancing is definitely part of that equation, but not the only part.

Queen Latifah was absolutely amazing. I love her more and more everyday.

I love Wayne but he has to go. I was kinda shocked that Albert went but oh well. He can just fade back into nowhere land again.

I agree the "in" actors may be too busy...but maybe those who were in the limelight and are now more in movies or other avenues might do it? Julianna Margolies? what do you think about someone like Cher? She could be really fun, really campy and bring in a great other group of fans.

I've long been a fan of Queen Latifah and agree that she is a wonderful role model for today's young women. She sounded wonderful last night!

Both Albert and Cameron are very forgettable to me. Though I really wanted Wayne to go last night, Albert was no big surprise. Nice eyes, weird hair and completely forgettable. I do feel kind of sorry for Anna though - I really like her.

Ha Ha Ha... Cher. She'd fit right in with the outlandish coustumes !

One of the characters from a sitcom that has been off the air for sometime. Like Seinfeld or Will and Grace, even Friends or Frazier. Those are the kind of celebrities that people remember. Some have gone on to other series or films, but some sorta disappeared. DWTS might give their careers a boost.

Those people from Friends are set financially for life, their careers don't need a boost. The Frasier and Will & Grace people are still A-listers in their current chosen fields and haven't been off the air long enough to need career boosts. Seinfeld, Julia, Jason... all very busy people still on the A-list. The only one of all those shows who could probably use a job is Michael Richards and somehow I can't see DWtS wanting him on the show.
I live in my own world. But it's ok, they know me there.
Kid Nation... a sad day for society when the exploitation of children becomes acceptable entertainment for television viewers.
