Re: Brandy & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Season 11

I'd love to see Maks win this season, cuz I really do think that he's ready to leave DWTS behind him. He and Tony are now business partners, interested in franchising his DWM studios.

I agree that, I think this season, we could see an all-female finale depending on who is pulling in bigger voting numbers. On Twitter, Kurt hinted that it had been insinuated to him that he and Anna receive an unbelievable amount of votes (I don't know how anyone could on the show could reveal that to him, but...), so he really could make it into the final as the only dude. I also think that Bristol will be in the final as a shocker. She'll take out Kyle and one of the other more deserving dancers, like Brandy or Jennifer, with the other spot going to whoever is left between Brandy and Jennifer. Perhaps, the unkind edit towards Jennifer is the show's way of manipulating the viewers to oust Jennifer in favor of Brandy. It really all comes down to Bristol-gate. If she's this powerhouse vote-getter, then they'll exploit her to the end.

The Brandy Hate: Yes, the 2nd and 3rd week of competition didn't do them any favors. Even now, though the producers are tempering it, we see hints of Maks and Brandy not having the most fluid relationship. He does get very frustrated with her in practice when she can't get a step. Last week, though, I started voting for them, both by phone and email whereas up to this point, I'd just voted for Kurt. There is a group of E/M fans who refuse to vote for Brandy. I'm not sure of their rationale other than that she's not Erin or that Maks looks miserable (to them), but they actually vote for other couples, namely Bristol and Kurt, just to spite Maks. Not sure why they'd do that if they're Maks' fans, but to each his own.

In a rather lackluster season, I have found Brandy's recent performances, from week 4-7, to be highlights of DWTS. I do hope that Maks wins the plastic ball this season.

Football players have always had very big fanbases that have kept them in longer than deserved; even LT, who is much more controversial than Kurt and looked like he was miserable throughout, lasted a few extra weeks, so it's possible that Kurt will make the finals over better dancers. And then we have the Bristol phenomenon on top of that. With both in play, this may be the first season that we only have one of the best dancers making the finals. In past seasons, we have at least always had two decent ones, or at least two who the judges loved (Helio, I'm looking at you). As far as I'm concerned, if both Brandy and Jennifer don't make the F3, the whole season is a bad joke.

Re: Brandy & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Season 11

Maks may just need a break. DWTS won't be the same without him It makes me wonder if he left, if his brother would wind up joining. I know he said at the end of last season he'd stick with the show as long as they'd have him back, and he seems to be an in demand pro that gets requested a lot. I was sad not to see Edyta involved in the 200th episode special.

Brandy seems to be getting a much better edit than she did in the first 3 weeks. Whether that's the show's doing or Maks giving them an earful who knows. I still think she's got an uphill battle to climb in terms of winning, as I think Jennifer's still the front runner. Plus, some are still turned off to her and I think saying she wants to win more than anyone won't win her any support. If Maks lost this season, I do think he'd take a break next time. I know he's not overly happy at the changes the show has seen, and seeing Derek, Mark, or Bristol win would probably be a breaking point for a lot of pros (the latter 2 being a complete mockery).

Football players do get a lot of support, and Kurt is very likeable to boot. If grumpy LT could get to the half way mark, anything's possible

Dancing's Maks: Instant Dance Could Get Messy

    Hi everyone,

Hope you had a great week. Thanks for voting for us!

Well, we had another very good week. Our team dance went great and I'm so proud of Brandy for the foxtrot. Gilles was funny because he came up to us afterward and apologized for giving us a 9. I told him, "Friendship aside, you were being the judge."

I mean, I've got to admit, I felt like the whole time the celebrity judges weren't particularly looking for anything. I think having the celebrity judges was an exciting gimmick. They were more or less there to say something nice, give a 10 and move on. I felt like Gilles wanted to give a 10. I don't think there's anything wrong with them handing out "free" scores to inflate our scores.

Len's 10 was the highlight for Brandy this season. She was like, "Oh my God!" I'm not trying to show off or whatever, but I seriously think she did one of the best performances. People are talking about the face she made after her little slip-up, but it was minor and I still think, overall, she did a fantastic job. Whether or not judges deduct points for that is up to them. It's totally up to the viewers. I'm just focused on having Brandy do her best.

Rick leaving is another example of the judges not being a factor. I don't know why he got fewer votes, but it's totally undeserving. I feel like his fans were like, "Oh, he's safe." He's a stand-up guy. This guy is amazing. I can compare him to Jerry Rice and how super-nice, genuine and smart he is. He has this very contagious smile. I know some people were surprised that Bristol was safe, especially since she said she wanted to go home. I feel like, why would you want to go home? You put yourself out there for people to vote — and they do — and instead of embracing it, you're undermining the participation. If she embraced it better, I think she'd be having a lot more fun.

So next week, we have the waltz and the Cha-Cha for Instant Dance. First, I think everyone needs to know that getting music the last minute is part of competitive ballroom competitions. You work on five routines, go to the competition and you don't know what music they're going to play. But Dancing with the Stars is not a competitive ballroom competition. The beauty of Dancing with the Stars is that we can come up with the costume, the look and the stage performance beforehand so we can put on a show for people. It's not a straight-up dance competition. And we have to teach the celebrities. They only just got familiar with learning a dance in a week and now they don't get the music. So for our purposes, it's going to be messy. If anything, I find it unfair to the celebrities because we've had past winners going like, "I would never be able to do this. This format is crazy." Seven seasons ago — which sounds like a long time ago, but isn't because we have two seasons a year — we had a show that everybody loved and everybody watched. And it was a simple show. The dances are still iconic and phenomenal. If you noticed, on the list of iconic dances, most of them were from the middle seasons, except for Nicole, who was out of this world last season. It got so crazy in the later seasons.

The format and changes are wearing on the professionals too. We are mentally drained and physically exhausted. I've been sick this entire season. I know they want to try new things and keep people on their toes, but I also think it will make for better TV if you can prepare properly. I'm a proud professional and I would never let myself come out with a mediocre product, but I'm going to give a hard thought about what I want to do. I've said this before, but the only thing I can compare it to is to have a professional swimmer swim in Jell-O.

I'm the best at what I do under the proper circumstances. It doesn't make me less professional. I don't want to do instant dances or dance marathons because there's no way to properly prepare for it. I don't understand why we got Argentine tango and paso doble in our semifinal if we get there. They're just way too similar.

All I know is, it' been go-go-go constantly. I haven't seen my family. I haven't sat down. In order for me to provide for my family, I need to work for the entire year. I don't take vacation. After this season is over, I continue working on my studios, shows and other projects. The season is very, very hard. I haven't sat down in four and a half years. But then I go, "I love it." I saw my past partners and we had a great time hanging out and talking. I haven't won yet — and I want to point out that there were only five professionals in the top 10 dances. I think I've done something right, but other times, I go, "I want to go home." I haven't seen my mom. I have to rely on the phone. Then I feel I'm not a good enough son or grandson. All the tabloids and gossip blogs keep saying that Brandy is a diva and I hate her and stuff like that — which couldn't be further from the truth. We have so much fun together and what they don't know is that Brandy was trying to convince me to go to Russia together so I could see my grandma before she died. She had her publicist try to convince my publicist. I sat her down and said, "I love you for even having this thought, but we logistically cannot." It's probably one of the most amazing things anyone has considered. It's an 18-hour flight and then a 9-hour drive. I feel so protective over Brandy because I know how amazing she is as a person, as a mother and how she's turning out to be a true friend. What has she done to deserve the crap that's been written? But the fact that she was willing to do that so I could see my grandma and be with my family speaks volumes about her.

That was a lot of venting! But I guess the bottom line is that the show is no joke. I am having a blast with Brandy, but it has been a difficult season overall. But I am not going to let any negative feelings derail our focus. I know we can get better and I feel like we've really hit our stride.

That's all for now. Thanks for reading!

Maks is hopping mad in his blog this week! I love it, lol! Love that Russian temperment. Poor boy misses his family and is frustrated. It was so sweet what Brandy wanted to do for him. I'm glad Brandy helped him through the time when his grandmother died. I know Maks doesn't like it but, I'm hoping knowing the cha-cha someonewhat will help Brandy & Maks in the instadance.

Re: Brandy & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Season 11

I think in season 9, doing all the gimmicks and group/team dances took a toll on the regular dances they had to perform that week. I feel like the show is beyond the point of really caring as much as packing stuff in that they hope will appeal to the audience, but I believe it was Kelly who forgot part of one of her dances and winged it. She even admitted it. I don't mind the group/team dances (hate the marathon) but I wouldn't mind seeing something added to those to keep them fresh. Maybe in the team dances, score everyone individually to get a combined total to add to their individual routine. At least it would prevent someone weak benefitting from being with stronger dancers.

I really hope this is Maks's season. I'm not sure he'd want to leave the show, as much as wants a break or maybe doesn't agree with the changes. I know that's the case. To be a fly on the wall during any meetings between the pros and producers.

His blog does sound more tired and frustrated than normal. I hope that doesn't mean he's going to pack it in after this season.
I have to say though, that even though I have favorite pros (and less favorites: Corky, Lacey, Karina...,) the show is bigger than any one pro. I'm surprised at how little I've missed Edyta.

I miss Edyta But I agree, I think if they replaced every pro with a bunch of newbies (and not cross overs from other dance shows), in the end the ratings would be fine. Julianne was extremely popular, but the show survived fine without her. Maks was gone season 6 and had 3 early ousters the following 3 seasons. Cheryl, who's also mentioned as being very popular with viewers, had an early exit with Tom Delay and I've felt seasons 7 and 10 she wasn't enjoying herself as much. If Maks were to leave next season, that'd pave the way for them to bring either Jonathan, Dmitry, or Damian back, though with my luck I'd get stuck with Corky again Dmitry was never a huge favorite of mine, but I have grown to miss him seeing him the pro dances, and would love to see Damian get another shot. And I'd really love to see Jonathan make it past the first elimination for a change. In the end, if I didn't have any celebs I liked, I might watch for the pros, but even paired with my least favorite dancers I'd still watch and vote. It's been shown the pros are easily replacable.

I'm so glad that Maks took the time out to stand up for Brandy (swoons) what a gentleman. Now I hope that these two really win, I think they are most deserving, and are the team that have made the most strides. I can't wait to see their Waltz, I know they'll rise to the occasion and kill it despite the stupidness of Instant dance. Maks is a wonderful teacher and Brandy is becoming an excellent dancer. I see 3 10's in her future. I'll be voting for Brandy this Monday and every Monday. I hope all of you will too. GO TEAM BRAN DMC 1-800-868-3406 VOTE VOTE VOTE

So, I expect Jennifer to have a more redeeming edit having an easy insta-dance this week, and two easy dances next week (at least for her; I've heard the pros say the cha cha is one of the harder dances to choreograph for). So that's 3 AT, 2 pasos, 2 sambas, 2 waltzs, and a cha cha, if I have everyone right.

I'm more than ready for this season to be over, but I realize I want it to keep going if Maks isn't back next time.
kara, I'm answering this post from the DWTS Media thread in Maks' thread cuz I just wanna talk about Maks I hope you don't mind!

That Maks has his two powerhouse dances in one night makes me wonder if the show is pushing for him to win this season. Brandy's samba and tango, both of which heavily emphasized the passionate side of Brandy, really got her noticed. If she can channel that in her AT and the Paso, wow!, it could be a knockout night for her. The AT brings the same fire as the tango combined with that incredible sex appeal we saw in her foxtrot. If they can resurrect some of their antagonism from earlier in the season, they'll knock the Paso out of the park, esp. if Maks can innovate it anywhere near his dance with MelB.

If they can escape this week unscathed, I think they could hurtle into that final with a LOT of momentum. But there are also too many "ifs" before them, namely tomorrow night, and Tuesday, and the producers' whims for the finals, and the voters. Tomorrow night could be a mess, and one or both of the semi-final dances could be a bust (I remember there being a LOT of hype about Erin and Maks' rumba and Paso; both were pretty big disappointments). So, yes, many "ifs" to surpass before the MBT can be raised by a non-Hough

As for Maks' blog, I'm very glad that he stood up for Brandy and shared that wonderful anecdote about her offer to go to Russia. Whatever the process that brought them here, I'm happy that they are managing a good partnership now. And, yes, I don't think that Maks will be back next season. I'm not sure if it's a forever kind of thing, esp. if he's the primary breadwinner for his whole family, but I think he needs a break where he can just sleep and eat at the local pizza shop and teach average Americans dance moves and be with his family until he's ready to do whatever. I am still of the mind that Maks is ready to move to maybe just one season of DWTS per year--if not quit it forever and give the reins to Val--in favor of growing his business franchise, and even possibly, finding a wife and starting his own family.

I'm still trying to figure out him and Erin
