Americans battle their bulge on TV dance show
    Fri Apr 24, 2009 4:55pm EDT

LOS ANGELES, April 24 (Reuters) - Take the hip-shaking on "Dancing with the Stars" and mix it with the challenges of "The Biggest Loser," and audiences will get the idea of a summer TV show in which overweight contestants shed pounds by dancing.

"Dance Your Ass Off", starting in June on the Oxygen cable TV channel, features 12 contestants battling their bulge on the dance floor and weight scales, hoping to win $100,000.

Judges whittle down the contestants each episode by combining scores for their hip-hop, jazz, tango and pole dancing routines and the number of pounds they have shed.

Producer SallyAnn Salsano told reporters on Friday she has weight issues herself and hopes the 12-week program would show Americans that losing weight does not have to be torture.

"They are having the time of their life and they are shedding weight," she said.

More than two-thirds of Americans are overweight or obese, according to a January report from the U.S. National Center for Health Statistics.

"Dance Your Ass Off" is hosted by actress Marissa Winokur, who won a Tony award as Tracy Turnblad in the musical "Hairspray" on Broadway, It begins airing on June 29.

Carrie Ann Inaba Loses It Watching Gilles Dance on DWTS
    Friday April 24, 2009

What's it like watching Gilles Marini up close on the dance floor?

"Exactly as you think it might be," DWTS judge Carrie Ann Inaba said on Friday's Bonnie Hunt Show. "It's like, 'Oh, menopause!' It gets very hot!"

Overall, Inaba said, "This is my favorite season ever because you don't know who is going to stay on top."

Of Lil' Kim, she said, "I just love her. She just gets out there and is so unexpected. She's so effervescent. She's fun. She's vibrant."

The Bachelor's Melissa Rycroft is "a really good dancer and watching her and Tony [Dovolani], Tony is sort of blossoming."

"Tony is really shining this year and I think that is because he's working with an excellent dance partner. Normally Tony and I fight at least once a season ... and this year it's not happening," she went on. "So I am very happy he is with Melissa because he's not on my back."

Inaba also revealed that she is dating again after splitting with a dancer -- but she wouldn't reveal how she met her new mate.

"It's a funny story," she said. "I don't know if I am ready to share that one yet. It will be in the book."

"His name is Jesse -- he's an accountant and he's a normal guy," she dished.
"He's wonderful. I keep going, 'When is this going to stop?'"

Why am I not shocked that Marissa would be hosting a show like that? Catchy name. Better than the one Ian Ziering hosted ("Your Momma Can't Dance").

It's funny how many people get in the news by raising the idea that they have considered going on DWTS. Doesn't mean the producers would have them.
Yes, they've had drug addicts and felons on but he would be the first rapist, cannibal, bi-polar, tattoo faced, lisping psychopath.
    In the Red Room:
Samantha: So, Mike, what is your strategy?
Iron Mike: My style is fewoscious, my offenth is impetweous. I want to wrip yo heawt out. i want to eat youw childwen......
Now that's funny. I don't know whether to be ludicrous or 'static about this.

Here's ABC's press release for next Tuesday's results show. I'm excited to see Edyta and Alec back to dance!
ABC does sure seem to like Robin Thicke performances for their reality shows. Jason and Jillian had a private performance by Robin Thicke on their first 1:1 date.

Actually the same thing can be said for Natasha Beddingfield - she was on the Bachelorette when Jesse and Deanna had a private concert.

After looking at the costumes from some of the seasons, I'd have to say season 4 was my least favorite. Please no more dancers from the boxing pool....male or female. And could we go to another sport besides NFL? Seen one seen them all. I liked that they did a cooking star. It would be fun to see Guy or Tyler on there. The chefs tend to have great personalities and are not brooding and painful to watch like some of these lumbering jocks. Olympic stars are better from this area.

And in related news, Gilles just "tweeted" that he can't move his neck. Oh, well, that's not the part people watch anyway.
