Most of them do have a heartfelt personal story. Now that is true, but don't count on being able to watch their dance and read the story from their dance. That isn't going to happen. The dance sort of loosely tells it. Sometimes the dance just alludes to the story. Other times if it weren't for the costumes and the props, you wouldn't know anything about the story!
However, last season the war vet J.R.'s dance was obvious. That was unusual, though.

In story night we get to learn personal details about the celebs we might not already know plus they get to express emotion in their dance through their eyes, face and limbs (particularly in the Rumba) that they wouldn't be able to do in a jive. At least you hope they can show emotion...someone should be able to move Carrie Ann to tears.

Or drool... particularly William. At least he's doing a salsa, not a rumba which would cause the screaming fangirls to rush the dance floor.

    Re: DWTS Media Thread

Per Pure DWTS, here's the partial order for story night:

1st: Jack/Anna (samba, dancing to one of his songs)
    6th: Katherine/Mark (waltz)
    7th: Sherri/Val (rumba)
    8th: Melissa/Maks (jive)
    10th: William/Cheryl (salsa)

Unknown are Gladys (foxtrot), Donald, Gavin, Maria, Jaleel (all dancing the rumba), Roshon (samba). They may space the rumbas out.

Oh, those nasty Latin dances. Two out three judges guaranteed to be drooling.
