Mike Catherwood Prefers Never to Dance Again

Mike Catherwood and partner Lacey Schwimmer were sent packing Tuesday night when Dancing with the Stars eliminated the first pair of season 12. Now that he's out of the running for the mirror-ball trophy, the radio personality is hanging up his dancing shoes – for good.

"I'm sure there are a lot of past competitors that sparked a dancer within them, but I am not one of those people," Catherwood told PEOPLE following Tuesday's elimination show. "If anything, the only relief that comes with being eliminated tonight is knowing that I don't have to go back in and frustrate myself and Lacey with my horrible dancing."

While the L.A.-based KROQ disc jockey, who earned the lowest scores in the first two weeks of competition, may not be walking away with a newly instilled passion for the ballroom, he's not exactly leaving empty handed, either.
"I'll take away a friend," Catherwood said says of Schwimmer. "It's been a great experience for that reason and that reason alone. You realize as you get a little older ... that nothing else really matters in life except the relationships you develop, and I've been lucky enough to develop a lot of them – but most importantly, Lacey."

The funnyman admits his early departure is disappointing but considers the overall experience to be a success.

"In a weird way, I feel like I've matured, because I faced something that was profoundly intimidating and embarrassing and faced it head on," says Catherwood. "If you can count on one hand all these moments that you'll remember for the rest of your life, then I can take away knowing that this was one of them."

Schwimmer agrees that their time on Dancing was well-spent. "We had a blast, and I think that's the main important thing of this show is if you do not have fun, it's a wasted experience," she said. "We definitely laughed, so job well done!"

If Catherwood's fans are holding out hope that "Psycho" Mike could one day return to the dance floor, rest assured that anything is possible.

"If I ever dance again, I will dance for comedy – but probably not for enjoyment!" he says.

Dancing With the Stars Boots Mike Catherwood: "I Was Essentially Flogged by Words"

That Psycho Mike Catherwood is a good egg. Can't dance a lick, but nice fellow.

This season's first eliminee from Dancing With the Stars told us exclusively that his big regret is putting partner Lacey Schwimmer out of work. He said, "I'm not a dancer, I get to go back to my regular job—this is her job, dancing's her life, her livelihood...Everybody's yelling at Obama: What are you going to do about jobs? Look at me! I'm losing people's jobs left and right. And with a big smile on my face."

So who verbally flogged the poor clumsy radio host on his way out the DWTS door? Plus, who did the deejay see naked during his time on the show?

READ THE RECAP: Dancing With the Stars: Who Was the First to Go?

Mike told us, in jest, of course: "I feel terrible, I was publicly embarrassed, I was essentially flogged by words. It's insulting to me as someone who is a broadcaster that people laugh at everything Bruno [Tonioli] says simply because he has a wacky accent. And I haven't been able to develop a wacky accent, and no one laughs at what I say, and that hurts. That hurts even more than getting low scores on Dancing With the Stars. And let me tell you this: Although my ego took a tremendous bruise by being eliminated on the very first elimination and by getting the lowest aggregate scores, I, Michael Dwight Catherwood, am very happy that I was involved in this experience, because I got to, first and foremost, meet Lacey Schwimmer, and develop a friendship and relationship with young Lacey...I've developed a lot of great friendships. This has been overwhelmingly positive in the face of my horrendous embarrassment."

Oh, and that's not all. To hear Mike tell it, he had quite a few adventures during his time on DWTS that made his experience worthwhile: "I got to see Cheryl Burke naked, I got to make sweet love to Petra Nemcova, I got to do Wendy Williams' hair, and I pumice-stoned Chris Jericho's bunions." (Lacey's take on this testimony? "He's lying...and again, lying.")

So what inspired him to bust out those sweet improvised moves at the last minute? Mike explains, "Truth be told, I had a meeting with the executives behind Dancing With the Stars and I was told, you've got to keep those under wraps. You've got to handcuff your special sexual moves, because they're too hot for TV. Modern technology literally hasn't invented cameras capable of capturing that on TV. You will burn people to death in the crowd, you're going to singe lenses. It's like watching porn in high-def. It's too clear."

Did Mike's farewell dance indeed burn your retinas? Who do think will be eliminated next week?

The Chris Brown controversy is over and done with (disappointing) but Tom is great in this interview. He gets in a good jab about Ryan. Sure made me laugh!!

The Ryan jab starts at 1:05 and the CB stuff starts at 5:35.

Obama worked his address to the nation around the DWTS schedule:

Maybe the first family has some DWTS fans in the mix.

From Late Night With Jimmy Fallon:

"President Obama’s speech on Libya was scheduled early so it wouldn’t interrupt 'Dancing With the Stars.' That’s ridiculous. This is a major historical event that affects the lives of millions of people. I can’t believe it was almost interrupted by Obama’s speech."

I not sure if this is the correct thread for this, but did anyone else see Carrie Ann receive and accept a proposal and ring this morning on Regis and Kelly? She was sitting in for Kelly, and they ended the show with Jesse Sloane surprising her.

Which is pretty funny, since a couple of weeks ago some magazine was reporting she was engaged, but she denied it. I guess they knew what was coming before she did

RE: Pres. Obama; I heard the FOX network (not the news channel), criticized his decision to re-arrange his speech for primetime TV. The article went on to mention times FOX didn't air a speech by the president so as not to interrupt their own primetime schedule. Personally, this arrangment works for me

I saw the CA engagement and it was very sweet. I taped it and just watched it tonight which is how I watch most tv these days, lol. I really like CA when she is in a different venue other than DWTS. She was sooo much better than Kelly Ripa who honestly, the woman is like nails on a chalkboard to me, her voice makes me want to run out of the room screaming. It was nice to have an adult on the show that doesn't have to interrupt everyone else who is speaking because she may not be getting ALLL of the attention. It was almost weird hearing Regis voice so much, he doesn't get to talk that much when KR is there. Maybe CA will do the show permanently (one can only hope). Her engagement was really very touching but I can't help but think that she knew it ahead of time, she was surprised but not THAT surprised, lol. He fiance is very cute and seems completely smitten with her.

    Carrie Ann Inaba Engaged

Working on Dancing With The Stars, Carrie Ann Inaba is surrounded by glitz and glam, so beau Jesse Sloan knew he had to make her engagement ring extra special. “Jesse came in a few months ago,” Ann Mangini of Santa Monica’s Rafinity jewelers tells PEOPLE. “He had a very clear idea of ring style and diamond cut: princess cut in a clean platinum mounting.” As they worked to design the ring, Mangini presented him with several different sparklers, and Sloan ultimately selected the 2˝-carat, D-color, princess-cut diamond he presented to his girlfriend of two years Thursday morning on Live with Regis and Kelly. But there’s more to the gem than meets the eye. “Since the ring was so very simple, for a little flair I suggested we set both his and Carrie Ann’s birthstones hidden on the inside of the ring,” Mangini says. “[It's] a Rafinity signature detail and a way to symbolically join the happy couple.” So while not visible to the eye, Inaba’s birthstone, garnet, and Sloan’s birthstone, which happens to be diamond, are both “artfully” embedded in the ring, as well. Though Sloan was secretive about his big purchase — and played it very cool when he proposed to his longtime love on live television — he was definitely thrilled about the whole ordeal.
