I think he was trying to make up for that slip-but made it worse. At least Tom was there to rescue him and cut to commercial before he totally said something unforgivable.

I think the language played a part in it. Also, most times, I think, when you say "vintage", you're talking about something very cherished, of high quality, and older. And in the case of the "older", I think he was just referring to her as the first "winner" of the show.

I really think that's how he meant it.

I don't see why she couldn't. Last time she obviously wasn't the best dancer, but she did extremely well imbuing her dance which character which would translate well to the stage.
