I got thinking this show must seem so foreign to Ashly. The last season she was on was season 3 and it's changed so much since then. There's still nearly all the same pros she competed against, and Tom and the judges, but everything else is different. I couldn't get over how wide her smile was last night.

Count me in! The man is not only an American hero, he is a world hero. He's willing to challenge himself and to laugh at himself at the age of 80. Will he or should he win? No to both, but I love watching him and I love giving the viewers a chance to see someone who is really worth admiring. I hope only that he outlasts toxic Kate.
I can only hope at 80 I could still seriously think about doing something like this. As some others already said, Buzz gives the show something and someone different to root for. I never would have thought they would have cast someone like him, who's more famous for walking on the moon than doing a TV show or something like that, but I am glad they think outside the box a little with their casting. He's such a sweetie, and probably could move back in the day. He wasn't great by any stretch, but oddly was a little better than I thought he would be. The next dance he has is the foxtrot, and I think that might suit him better.

Please let him outlast Kate. He did an awesome job, considering his age. And I think they should take that into consideration, especially when up against the likes of a shopping cart. He was so inspiring and a joy to watch. Go Buzz!!

I just had a "duh" moment. When Carrie Ann said that Khate was different from all the other celebs on the show because she wasn't a performer or an athelete, she was wrong. Buzz is in tbe same boat. He has done plenty of press over the years but so has she. Learning how to ballroom dance and "sell it" on the dance floor is just as foreign to him as it is to her. He didn't do an great job dancing (unless you grade him based on his age) but I actually think he did do a great job of entertaining, showing infectuous joy and connecting with the audience.

I caught the same thing. In reality, one could argue Kate is more of a performer than Buzz. It's not like being in front of the camera is foreign to her. She had a reality show that ran for quite awhile, along with book tours, speaking engagements, interviews. She and Buzz fall right into the same category but it's not like she's some agroaphobic best selling author who's live her life in the shadows. Buzz is 80 so he's even worse off than her in terms of having an advantage physically. CA was just being nice when it came to Kate.

As for Buzz, he look more uncomfortable out there than I would have liked, imo, but I know he's probably going to give it his all and I think he could potentially last a few rounds because of his determination and personality. Ashly's smile looked a mile wide and at least it didn't look plastered on like Kate's.

I almost feel like how the vote goes between Buzz and Kate symbolizes America like they always say in an election year. A vote for the all-American legendary hero Buzz is greatness, a vote for the exploitive mom, fame hungry, "doing it for my kids" Kate is a huge step backward.

No one can ever take away his legacy. I'll enjoy rooting for him and Ashly, who I can't say enough how happy I am to see back. And in no way do I think he'll be anywhere near as annoying or aggrivating as Cloris.
This is a dancing show, and he sure can't do that! A sentimental favorite he is. I love seeing the older ones give it their best. His personality is much more endearing than Cloris' was. Hope he doesn't outlast some of the better dancers though.

I don't think he'll win, but for entertainment value, I want him to outlast certain people who also won't win. At first, it's all about who outlasts whom for me.

I was never a fan of Cloris's and always cringe when she's brought back for any little segment (though I disliked her partner even more). If we're talking about who the worst dancers are, Buzz and Kate fall into the category. Honestly, everyone else seems to be either really good (Nicole and Evan) or have enourmous potential to grow-and obviously all of the above will have some weeks tougher than others. In these early stages, though, it really is more about popularity and having some sort of voting angle. Buzz has the older, all-American hero/legend, he can't dance but we love watching him give it his all and are inspired bloc. I didn't vote for Buzz, though I can't say I'd be too upset to see him outlast a few couples. And for some, a certain 'we love them for their personality even though they suck dance wise' can take them a long way in certain cases (Ty Murray and Billy Ray spring to mind). Even though they weren't the best dancers last season, Louie, Chuck, and Kelly got my votes because I enjoyed their personalities, chemistry with their partners, and determination out of their comfort zones more than some of the better technical dancers. I don't think that'll happen for Buzz, but I wouldn't be surprised if he made it this week.

This season does have so much potential and even though it had it's highest premiere ever on Monday, time will tell if it can keep momentum. For me it's looking to be an excellent season, as all spring editions are, but there's just one person on this show that's a big thorn in my side

I think part of the reason he may be on is because of the book he wrote - end of last year.
I just saw that he's going to be at our big book festival next month.
Also, he's not exactly been out of the limelight as he's done several things through the years.
I happen to think it's great when they get older people on this show. I think they provide a lot of inspiration to people.

The DWTS version of McCain and Palin? Love it. Buzz was charming last night. Yep, he dances like someone his age. Why bring on older stars if that will always be the downfall? Ashly exudes so much warmth. She comes across as a very good-hearted person. I enjoyed watching them but, of course, they can't go too far as the competition heats up.
