For the encore dance the judges chose Steve's tango. But instead of Steve and Anna doing the tango, Jonathan subbed in for Anna as the woman. Fantastic!Originally Posted by Cheddar;2887132;

You can go to abc.com and watch the entire show from last night. Essentially, Anna was sick and her husband (Jonathan Roberts) stepped in and helped Steve rehearse the tango. Thus, the term Mango.Originally Posted by Cheddar;2887132;
Just reminded me - that was name of a character on SNL. Chris Kattan, I think.
Man I am so disappointed. I thought Steve was going to Mahoney on into the next week. I actually don't mind Adam's attitude but I'd rather he, Marissa, Mario, or Christian leave before the Gutemeister.
Also, who though that they should've used the Blue Oyster Bar Gay Bar song from Police Academy for the Mango? After all it is called the "Himbo."
I hated that Steve left. He was just so darn nice. AND he took the costume designers out to lunch and gave them a shout out tonight. I seriously wonder how many of these stars even acknowledge the costume people, makeup and hair people, etc. It just seems like Steve is very genuine and likes to make EVERYONE feel important.
LOVED him and Jonathan doing the "Mango".
I was hoping Mario or Shannon would go or Adam. It's hard for me as I kind of like just about everyone including Adam a little tiny bit :duck
The hobby bit was a bit weird. I thought it was SO cool what Marlee does, but Steve and Priscilla, that was too strange. It has to be an April Fool's joke. I mean, come on, Kristi eating hotdogs, Marissa surfs, Priscilla a psychic? I really think it can't be true. It just can't. Funny, but not serious.
And the more I think of it, the more I'm sure it was an April Fool's joke.
I have always loved the Alvin Alley dance troupe. I did not like the singer tonight.
GUT! GUT! GUT!!!! Just had to say it one more time. Going to miss you guy!
Que me amat, amet et canem meum
(Who loves me will love my dog also)
OMG!!! The Mango. That was hilarious! Only Steve and Johnathon could have pulled that one off. Steve~~the sweet, genuine oh-my-gosh-I'm-really-on-this-show-and-love-everything-about-it and Johnathon who seems like Mr. Serious. I giggled waaay too much about their dance. Kudos to them. Will definitely miss The Guut!
Marissa has worn out her welcome. I'm sorry, but I don't know if I've ever seen any celebrity whine or cry as much as she has. There have been other celebrities who were bigger and much older who have taken the criticism all in stride. I like her bubbly attitude but that only gets you so far in a dance competition or in life. This show and being judged is gonna kill her self esteem as she seems to need acceptance. (And I don't want to see that happen to her) OK I get it, she has been made fun or is the subject of gossip because of her weight, and while I cannot imagine what it feels to go through that~~I'm sorry, bubbly cannot take you everywhere. Marie Osmond was kinda bigger when she started the series and much, much older and still managed to adapt to the training and criticism that was required of her. Yes she had difficulties, but didn't whine about them.
Aaaaand don't even ask me about Priscilla. It really is sad that she felt she needed plastic surgery, as she was aging very naturally and beautifully. Naked Gun anyone? She was gorgeous, now she just scares the bejeezus out of me! Make it go away!
Derek Morgan: Garcia? I'll tell you what you are to me. You're my God-given solace. Woman you promise me one thing - whatever happens, don't you ever stop talking to me.
Penelope Garcia: I can't right now 'cause I'm mad at you.
Morgan: I can wait
Actually Marie didn't take criticism very well, especially towards the end. After the "Doll Dance" when judges critiqued her she was nasty and said "I'm not buying it". Then after she didn't win she refused to go PR interviews, like everyone else participates in.Originally Posted by JunkieGirl;2887313;
As far as Marissa, there is a Marissa thread here. Take a look. Marissa is 35 by the way. (Marie was 49 when she was on the show last yr.)
Okay, from now on I will skip the results shows and just watch what this program is supposed to be about -- dancing. The fact that Adam is still there is a travesty. Putting aside that I think he's a pig, which I do, but which I can put away when I'm judging the dancing, he absolutely cannot dance. His holds are awful, his posture is dreadful, and his footwork is attrocious. Only Penn was maybe worse at dance. Even Marissa and Monica did it better. And, judging from her expression, I think Julianne will be relieved to be rid of him.
The Alvin Ailey dancers were fantastic, as is no suprorise. I loved their performance. I wish the show would invite the Pilobolus troop to perform. For anyone who doesn't know who they are, if you watched the Oscars the year before last, they were the shadow dancers who bent and folded themselves into shapes representing the nominated movies; e.g., they formed a high-heeled shoe for "The Devil Wears Prada." Although I've seen them do amazing things a few times, I am still in wonderment over that performance.

I realize that this isn't a popular position to take, but I'm glad Adam's still there. I think he's hilarious, and I get a kick out of watching all the uptight folks try to figure out how to react to him.
His rant about Kristi and Priscilla being all humble about their performance when he and Marissa were so much worse cracked me up. I think he's funny, and people just shouldn't take themselves so seriously.
I also don't think that Julianne is nearly as offended by him as people would like to think. I get the impression that he's a genuinely nice guy and fairly respectful of her when he's not doing his comedy shtick. I think there are times when she doesn't know quite how to react to him, but I've seen plenty of genuine affection going both ways in their interactions.
Seeking form amidst the void.
But if that's not possible, gimme a Margarita...shaken, not stirred...and hold the salt, please.
Thank you, Miss Griss! Ditto on the Adam comments! I love him, and think he's hysterical. What on earth is everyone getting so worked up about? It's called humor. And I totally agree- I get the impression he is a genuinely nice guy (I listen to his radio show sometimes, and he's seems like a simple and rational person. Self-deprecating and very likeable, in my opinion).Originally Posted by Miss_Griss;2887570;
And personalities aside, I think his dancing is pretty good for someone who clearly isn't a natural. I like watching the not-so-fabulous dancers get better each week, which he definitely has. I prefer that over the celebs who are smooth and natural right off the bat.
And I felt bad for Marissa last night, so I was glad she was saved tonight. It's obvious she puts her heart into it, and I think she does a good job... not sure why the judges were so darn hard on her.
And Marlee Matlin is fabulous- so glad she made it tonight also. Poor Steve G., but at least he left positive and happy- such a nice guy!

They were stressing throughout the show also that it was going to be shocking and unexpected. So...going by that logic the more competent and/or well known celebrities were at stake tonight rather than the ones who didn't do so good or aren't well known. So in that range it could only have been Priscilla, Jason, Kristi or Steve, the others not being well known or not having been a very visible figure in the entertainment world.
Do you think that maybe it was rigged? Perhaps the Gutes is a buddy of the producer and due to one or more celebrities dropping out helped his buddy out. I had heard Marla Maples was going to be in it as well as Tori Spelling. So he gets some money, free publicity for whatever he's going to get going, gets more toned and free training(as he already seemed pretty fit), and goes out early.
It's kind of like the situation with Gene Simmons and the Apprentice. Gene got free publicity for him and his show, he got to win a little money, and he got to go down in a blaze of glory at an early date.
I mean some of the "hobbies" of the stars had similarities to Steve Guttenberg films. It's as if the producers were letting you in on a secret, without just blurting it out. For instance, Jason's fascination with the model boats, Steve was the captain of a boat in two films, "Cocoon" and "Zeus and Roxanne." Christian had a pet otter, an otter being an amphibious/aquatic mammal, much like Steve's friend the dolphin named Roxanne in the latter movie. Finally, Marlee being a volunteer cop, harkens back to "police Academy 4" the final one with Steve Guttenberg as Cary Mahoney. In this one, the local police force wants to implement a volunteer police force to augment the regular force to help with more mundane duties. This was called C.O.P. or Citizens on Patrol.
Also, I just thought of it, Citizens on Patrol was the name of a rap song that was the ending credits tune of the aforementioned movie , the last Police Academy movie with Steve. Very much done in the old school rap style, much like Grandmaster Guttes had his rap.
Just came up with another, Priscilla being psychic, resembles Edgar Cayce, who claimed that Atlantis had been real. Atlantis now at the bottom of the ocean was the location for the alien rocks in "Cocoon."
And in closing I quote the song from the Simpsons entitled the "Stonecutters Song"
Who leaves Atlantis off the maps?
Who keeps the Martians under wraps?
We do! We do!
Who holds back the electric car?
Who makes Steve Gutenberg a star?
We do! We do!
