'Dancing With the Stars' Wants Betty White
By Rob Shuter Posted May 10th 2010 11:39PM

Even at 88, Betty White has the ambition of a 20-something! She brought down the house on 'Saturday Night Live' after her rabid fans on Facebook got her on the show, and now she's being recruited by yet another massively popular show: 'Dancing With the Stars.' Oh, Betty, you're in such high demand! But can she hang with the grueling workouts and routines? Details on her potential 'Dancing' dreams after the jump!

After her ratings bonanza hosting 'Saturday Night Live,' Betty White has been made another offer to bring everyone's favorite Golden Girl back to primetime.

"'Dancing With The Stars' would love to have Betty White grace the dance floor next season," a show insider tells me. "Not only would she guarantee great ratings, she would also make it easier for a lot of big celebrities -- who up to now have been sitting on the fence -- to sign on. There is no one bigger or more respected than Betty White."

If she agreed to be part of the next season, who knows who else the show would get!

Sources tell me Betty hasn't agreed to anything yet and is worried about how she would keep up with some of the younger contestants. However, she does have a great Cha Cha Cha!

Is there anything this national treasure can't do? Now we'll just have to see if she can deliver a kick line with the same precision she does a punchline.
Betty has already said she wouldn't do the show but who knows. And if it meant the return of Corky Ballas, I'd have to pass, much as I love Betty. But she deserves better than him.

I love Betty White, but I think people in their 80's just don't have the mobility needed for doing these dances.

I adore Betty but I respect the fact that she thinks she might not be the best candidate for this show. I realize she doesn't want to become a laughingstock, nor get voted through over better dancers, and probably not get scored what she deserves. She doesn't need the fame or the money, so as much as I'd love seeing her (even if she was a bad hoofer), I love that she doesn't think she'd be able to keep up. And I don't get why they automatically have to pair the older ladies with an older male (Corky being an example here). They never have an issue pairing the much older men with the younger female pros

And ratings for last night are still about the same, with 18 million for the first hour, and 19 million for the second hour.

I adore Betty as well, but did everyone notice how long it took her to walk down the stairs at the beginning of SNL? She favored one hip the entire time. I just don't think it would be possible for her.

In the May 3rd edition of Broadcasting & Cable magazine, there is a good interview with Tom Bergeron. I'm not sure if I can post the link or not. If anyone is interested, I'll post the link if it isn't against the rules. Or you can find it with a google search. Or PM me if you like.....I found it to be an interesting read.

From watching the OTRC videos, these are the dances I picked up for next week.

Chad and Cheryl - Waltz and Samba
Erin and Maks - VW and Paso Doble
Evan and Anna - Foxtrot and Paso Doble
Nicole and Derek - AT and ??? (she hasn't danced the Cha Cha Cha yet?)

Yep, they have the cha cha left. I had it backwards with Chad and Evan, I thought Ocho was doing the foxtrot and vice versa. I think he's going to have the toughest time next week, but his samba should be fun. Unless Cheryl screws it up on purpose.

I finally got around to watching SNL and I worried Betty was going to fall down. I cringe to think what poor Buzz would have looked like had he lasted long enough to do a jive or quick step, and I don't think Betty would do much better. I want to remember her for what she's accomplished and being the spunky, sassy 88 year old, not getting made fun of because she's getting dragged across the dance floor. I've seen all sorts of reports everywhere about her doing the show, and Louis said he'd love to be partnered with her. I guess if you're going to have a clunker, might as well be someone sweet like Betty. Maybe they can get that stunt double they used on The Golden Girls, in the episode where she/Blanche/Dorothy entered a dance contest and tried outdancing each other. I think we saw "Rose" do splits and cartwheels

Yeah, I'm worried about Chad's chances next week, but Cheryl keeps saying she's going to bring out his personality - so here's hoping she does.

The dance marathon episode on Golden Girls was hilarious. The stunt double was so funny, and the look on Dororthy and Blanche's faces when she was cartwheeling and shimmy'ing aroung the floor was priceless. Brought back memories there, karalott.

    Dancing with the Stars
Erin Andrews: Maks Was Nervous About Her Leap Onto His Shoulders
    May 11, 2010

LEAP OF FAITH: When Erin Andrews launched herself off the stage and onto partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy‘s shoulders during their Argentine tango on Monday’s Dancing with the Stars, “It was the most nervous I’ve seen Maks,” she said. “When I jumped I looked at Maks for a moment and I looked right at Bruno and his mouth was open. It was awesome!” The move was a real crowd pleaser, but it’s unlikely the two will perform it again. In fact, because of the risk factor, they only rehearsed it a few times before Monday. “There were a lot of things that could go wrong with her jumping on my shoulders,” Chmerkovskiy told PEOPLE. “I just wanted it to be over and it was perfect.”

IT AIN’T OVER: Don’t count out Niecy Nash and Louis van Amstel! Despite earning solid marks for their Viennese waltz and ’90s-style paso doble, the pair landed at the bottom of the leader board Monday night. But the Clean House star hasn’t given up hope. “There’s some parts that I haven’t shaken for America yet,” she said after the show. “I am so proud of myself … most women who can hula hoop with a Cheerio would not even attempt to be on Dancing With the Stars.” If Nash makes it through to next week’s semifinals, she promised to wear skimpier attire and no pantyhose. “I was born with a spray tan,” she says, “and I’m not afraid to show it.”

RALLY TIME: Chad Ochocinco and his partner Cheryl Burke have had two great weeks in a row. Is the Bengals‘ wide receiver finally finding his groove? “I’m getting comfortable and if I can borrow someone’s posture for the next few weeks, they won’t have anything to critique,” Ochocinco says. Many of his NFL pals have stopped by the ballroom to see him perform. The feedback, he says, has been wonderful. “The people on the outside have a naked eye and they don’t know about dance,” he said. “So anytime they see me doing something other than playing football, they think it looks good.”

ON THE FLY: Six hours before the live show, the wardrobe department decided that Evan Lysacek‘s futuristic costume wasn’t going to cut it. “I had a completely different costume — a black bulletproof vest and it just didn’t work,” Lysacek tells PEOPLE. “It ended up looking like a life jacket, so they scratched it and put this outfit together today. I got here at 10:30 in the morning and by the time the live show started they were set. The hair, makeup and wardrobe departments all came up with this look so fast. They are amazing.”

DRAMA DEPARTMENT: Derek Hough tells PEOPLE that he and Nicole Scherzinger, who received a perfect score for their ’50s-style paso doble, were not balls of stress in the days leading up to Monday’s show. “I wondered how we were going to tie in the ’50s theme with the paso doble. But once we figured that out, we had fun,” Hough says. “We are having a blast! It’s a misconception that there was drama all week. Nicole is hilarious and I hope people can see from our dances that we’re having a blast.” –Monica Rizzo
