That is either a really good or really bad idea. Non-traditional don't usually go over well. I don't understand the secrecy in regards to his the song either. He's the only pro who won't share. Looks like it will be a non-traditional jive to a theme song with a Halloween vibe. It will be interesting.

Hmmm, I would say The Addams Family, but that isn't exactly jive music - would be a good tango however. Maybe The Munsters? Still pushing the "jive" beat though.

Of course, unless you're Derek and whatever partner he is with, when do the couples ever get "dance step" appropriate music anyhow?

It sounds like it is the perfect set up for Len to say, "Too much messing around for me. It's not a proper Jive."

Unless Derek does it. In that case, Len will give them a 6 and Bruno and Carrie Ann will each give 9's.

I don't know what this show will end up to be, but Canada is on its second season of Battle of the Blades where professional hockey players (my current favourite is Theo Fleury) are paired with professional figure skaters (Theo is partnered with Jamie Sale), and they learn to do what they have always considered to be "girly". It is fantastic and, honestly, a lot less cheesy than DWTS.

Ugh. We already had "Skating with Celebrities" a few years back, and it was a trainwreck. Hopefully this one will be watchable.

I've seen snippets of Battle of the Blades on YouTube and I agree with you that it is a fun show to watch. There is a big difference, however, between pro hockey players and "Stars" when it comes to figure skating. The hockey players are basically stable on skates and only had to learn to deal with toe picks. They are also strong athletes that the female ice skaters could have confidence in.

"Stars", for the most part don't have those attributes. Look for episodes on an early Fox show called "Skating with the Celebrities" and you can see train wreck after train wreck. I will watch this show with morbid fascination just because I am a skater myself (that's me in my avatar) and a fan of the sport, but I don't expect the "Stars" will come up to a proficiency level even close to what the dancers do on this show.

I talked to a professional show skater friend of mine today and she gave me a little info on the the format. Evidently they are trying to find very skilled professional, but not "name" skaters, to act as partners for the show. Several of her friends have been asked to audition for the show. This is an effort to maintain the focus on the "stars", a tactic that worked early in the DwtS until the regular pro dancers here are often bigger stars than the "Stars" they train. Maybe ABC is also trying to keep the budget of the show down by not paying for big name skating stars (who would obviously be bigger names than the D listers that they would be partnering).

This thing is not looking good. :down Maybe they'll find a host who can make us laugh at least.
