As usual, I got to the party late. But John - I am seriously impressed. To get to #11 is worthy of

So you did this with a $3 stake?

My concern about signing on with $ sites is that I would get compulsive about it and loose actual money.

Anyone interested in joining me in a WPT qualifier tourney this afternoon? It's $27 + rebuys ($27 to get in, and if you start running low before the first break, you can spend another $27 to buy more chips if you want), and it's on pokerstars.com at 3:30pm Eastern.

Winners (1 for every 26 players and rebuys) will automatically get entry into the Saturday tourney, worth around $700. 1 runner-up will win cash.

If you're interested, let me know. I'm still undecided if I'm going to join the tourney, but if someone I know is going to, then I definitely will. There should only be around 30 players in the game, so chances are good we could end up at the same table.

Some friends and I have a no limit Hold 'em tournament about once a month. There have typically been about 20 people at each tournament. It's been a lot of fun. I have to say that I enjoy actually being able to see the people I am playing against rather than playing online. Not being able to see your opponents removes a key component of the game IMHO.

I agree with Azlen. Not being able to see your opponents really changes the feel of the game. I'm not knocking online games, they are just different. I don't think I would have found the courage to sit down at a casino hold'em table if I hadn't played a bit online first. It's a good way to learn the basic concept of hold'em before jumping into a live game where reading people becomes so important.

I got interested in Texas Hold'em and poker in general by watching the World Series of Poker and World Poker Tour on TV. As a spectator, I just got totally wrapped up in the drama.

My husband, who plays poker regularly with his buddies (some of whom are professional tournament players), just started teaching me how to play, and it's been a lot of fun even though I know I have a lot to learn. I wouldn't dare sit down to a real game yet, I'd be a total fish.

Any of you guys have tips for a newbie like me?

Playing on-line at free tables will give you a good idea how not to play for real money. But it WILL help you cope with the pressure of playing with "real" people.

I told greenie about this site, it provides about the most realistic play money poker you can get - still a few maniacs here and there, but all in all it's a good place to learn the intricacies of poker. http://www.pokerpages.com (click on Download software)

Yea that site is fun. I feel I can learn a lot playing in the free tables and it isn't like playing with the yahoos on Yahoo. Thanks hazy!

If anyone's bored and has a pokerstars.com account, I'm joining the $3 WPT tourney which starts at 10pm Eastern, tourney # 651254.
