TMZ reports that he had been fighting the Melanoma condition since 1992. That is a long time.

There's never much going on in the NASCAR thread of the Sports section, so I'll post this here, as she was a "celebrity" in some circles. Lynda and "The King" were married for 55 years (read the article for the cute story on that topic)

I didn't realize he had been a child actor. I saw 1951 as his first gig and thought he mus have been older than thought, but he was only 2 or 3 at the time.

Looks like John Pinette took another one of the great ones along with him when he left us today. Rest in peace Mickey.

This is a big one for book lovers: Peter Matthiessen, Co-Founder Of The Paris Review, Dies At 86 : NPR
I just got a galley of In Paradise, which is now his final book. It releases tomorrow.

I loved At Play in the Fields of the Lord and The Snow Leopard. He was a wonderful writer.

While Mickey Rooney is considered Old Hollywood royalty, I never got over what a schmuck he was in his autobiography. Talk about kissing and telling. It was crass and beyond ungentlemanly. At least he waited until after Ava Gardner had died before he laid bare the details of their sex life (among many other things that should have remained unsaid). I enjoyed his movies with Judy Garland, but I never could watch anything with him in it without thinking about that book. It's definitely true - the ornery (and that's a really nice word) ones live long lives.
