I have to believe that they were killed instantly. I have read things that are more of the spiritual persuasion than christian. Often your soul leaves the body just a moment before death is eminant. I like that. There was no suffering.

I would guess that they were rendered unconscious immediately by the trauma....well, Paul, anyway...and the fire and smoke did the rest. Sounds like the driver was killed immediately. There are signs to definitely determine that, but I doubt there was any suffering.

He certainly lived a long and productive life and is a man to be greatly admired. He will be missed.

Considering all he went thru he probably didn't think he would live so long. Wow, what a life, heart and a soul.

My girlfriends and I went to the Oakland Coliseum to see Mandela when he went on a world tour after his release. There is no doubt that this man did as much as any one man could do to bring about a seemingly insurmountable difference in one country where institutionalized racism/colonialism kept the majority indigenous population under virtual slavery. He sits with Ghandi, Abe Lincoln and Martin Luther King among the pantheon of super heroes that I know of in my lifetime. He will be remembered and revered. The world was blessed by this amazing man and his brilliance. I am sad at his passing.

Though his death was inevitable, it certainly gives us all a time to pause and re-live all he had done in 95 years of living. It is so comforting to be reminded. I followed his life, but there were things I had forgotten. Well done sir, well done!
