Gee, I was never much of a Different Strokes fan, but I do fondly remember him from Maude.

I read a couple of obits for Conrad Bain on-line. He married his first and only wife in 1945 and the marriage lasted 64 years, until her death in 2009. I found that pretty amazing---for anyone, not just someone in show business. He also helped start the Actors Federal Credit Union in the early 1960s, because he wanted to disprove the notion that actors were bad credit risks.

Todd Bridges, who played Willis on Different Strokes, and is now the sole remaining cast member of the four major characters on the show, said that Bain was good father to his television kids both on and off the set and that they became even closer as Bridges worked his way through his own problems. One of the obits also mentioned that Bain found it hard to talk about his young cast mates and their problems after the show was canceled, because he felt so helpless with regard to their struggles.

Sounded like he was a genuinely decent guy, both on and off the set.

Funky Claude died last week after a skiing accident in Switzerland. Who's Funky Clausde? He is the guy immortalized in the Deep Purple Song Smoke On The Water. The one responsible for saving many lives during the fire at the Casino in Montreaux, without him, the song & probably the Machine Album may have never become a reality.

I had no idea she had alzheimer’s disease. So sad. It's nice that her daughter inherited not only her mother's column, but her common sense. I've loved reading both her & Ann Landers' columns since I was very young. They always had such down to earth realistic advice, plus humor that made us laugh but never demeaned the writer.

I loved reading Abby and Ann Landers too over the past years, they had such a natural fresh approach to dealing with reader's questions and dilemmas. Funny how they were sisters--twins--and in the same line of work. They will be missed.

Wow, I hadn't realized she was still alive. So horrible that someone known for her common sense had Alzheimer's.
