Sorry to follow up my own post, but I just saw the TCM is showing A Face In the Crowd tonight, right after On the Waterfront. No a bad movie night.

I was very sad to hear about Andy Griffith. I haven't seen much of his work, but I absolutely LOVED Matlock when I was a kid. He'll be missed.

    Ernest Borgnine has passed.

Actor Ernest Borgnine dies at 95 - CBS News

I knew he won the Oscar for "Marty", but I remember him very well and best from "McHale's Navy".

    RIP, Ernest.

If you have never seen Marty, I highly recommend renting the DVD. It is well worth watching and I've seen it many times. It was first written and shown on television back in the days of quality anthology tv shows. The teleplay was written by Paddy Chayefsky, which is indicative of how good it is. Ernest Borgnine was a superb talent, both in drama and comedy. He was once married to Ethel Merman for a month. I will miss him.

One of my absolute favorite movies of all time.
I remember my Mother telling me it was supposed to be based on Arthur Godfrey, a popular personality at the time, who offended his audience when his mike was left on inadvertently and his "folksy" manner was found to be a fraud.

    Wow, Florimel.
That's another one of my favorite movies of all time.

Absolute perfection. Paddy Chayevsky was a genius. Ernest Borgnine was a terrific actor.

So sad. I remember his as a young man in Rocky V. There's already speculation about prescription drugs playing a role in his death. Whatever the cause, 36 is just too young.
