In McGowan's defense (and I am a fan of hers, specifically her work with Robert Rodriguez), some of the surgery was repair work as a result of a bad car accident a few years ago. I loved her edgy femme fatale look before.

Yes. I had forgotten about the accident.

After I posted, I decided to go looking to see if there was something about why she had done so much work. It sounds like she started out getting repair work done after the accident and got a little bit carried away. I loved her edgy look before, too. I guess that's why I'm so shocked that she now looks more like Stephanie Powers or someone. She's still pretty, but she just doesn't look like herself.

I don't understand why the celebrities don't look around and see the older stars who have had work done, but don't LOOK like they have had work done. That's the key. You want to look youthful, fresh and healthy...not like a different person with big lips and tight face. They should investigate who the surgeon is who is doing this great work and stay clear of the ones who do the plastic, horrible faces.

IMO, Barbara Walters has a great surgeon as does Michael Douglas, Susan Lucci, Dianne Sawyer, and a few others. They look good, but aren't overdone.

Yes, that probably added to it. She was quite stunning before then.

I agree. Add Jane Fonda to that list, she looks fabulous. They get caught up in wanting to look younger and prettier instead of better. Fillers anywhere look terrible. And you do look younger when you just get a lift without extras, anyway. Valery Harper does not look 74; her face looks like a normal person in her early 60s! And Barbara W doesn't look like she is 98 either. Well, she is 84 but acts 98. No brain lifts available, yet.

If someone has something in their appearance that they feel is unfortunate, like an overly large or crooked nose, or extremely flat chested, or bad teeth, then I can understand plastic surgery to correct this. But for someone who's young & already attractive who wants to change their appearance, as in bigger lips, changing an already nice nose, cheek inplants to get more puffy cheeks, huge breasts, etc., that's where they end up going wrong.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it. These are words for those considering plastic surgery to live by.

Also, if it's in order to try to keep a more youthful fresh appearance, but their same looks as age starts to creep up, that's OK for those in the public eye. We all know how youth obsessed Hollywood is. But when they keep trying not to age at all in their appearance, even though 20-30-40-even 50 years have gone by, they start looking like a cartoon.

Sometimes I'm glad I'm just a nobody who's job isn't dependant on staying young looking or standing out in a crowd. That's got to be tough on your self esteem.
We're all going to get older. Being afraid of that for employment has to be awful.

Yes, it must be a special burden to have to look great for your employment, however, if that were the case, then I would think that making the steps to preserve the looks would be given much care and much consideration. It's odd how many stars have ended up with very unbecoming results, such as Heather Locklear, Kenny Rogers, Bruce Jenner, Lisa Renna, etc. It like they didn't get the best doctors and I have no idea why that would have happened. Certainly, they can afford them.
