It bugged me when she passed the blame by saying people were upset that she worked hard to become successful and would do anything to bring her down. Take some damn responsibility.

Doesn't it though. Today is continuing to talk about Paula and the interview. One tweet that came in was perfect. "You don't say that word only once; it is in your vocabulary or not."

So, I guess she is going to continue to play the victim of a witch hunt. People are lying about her. Riiiiiiiiight.

I am actually quite pleased to see her dig herself in more deeply. Nothing is going under the rug here. Next ones out, Walmart and QVC. It is just a matter of a day or two, if that.

ETA: Caesars Casino just dropped her. She has restaurants in 4 of their locations.

These people don't have a humble bone in their collective bodies. If Paula's sons weren't going to say anything useful, or anything to help paint her as genuinely remorseful then the right thing for them to have done would have been to keep their mouths shut.

You will probably catch clips of the interview on other shows. Keep an eye peeled; she put on quite a display!

    Re: Miscellaneous Celebrity News

Just finished watching the interview on YouTube and came away thinking Paula only made things worse for herself. She tried to steer the conversation in favour of her looking like the victim, complete with dry tears. If her mission was to come across looking contrite then she failed miserably. All that interview did for her was make her look even more disingenuous and insincere than she looked before. Her PR team should be fired immediately because their tactics are doing her more harm than good.

And what's this with her trying to act as though the only time she ever used the word was during the robbery? If this was the case than why answer with " of course" when asked during the deposition if she'd ever used the word before??? Her answer made it seem as though she was saying, "of course I use that word...who doesn't". That's the impression I got from that.

Nope Paula, I don't think so. Back to the drawing board you go. Interview was a complete fail.

    Re: Miscellaneous Celebrity News

Judging by the tone of the previous few pages of posts, what I'm about to say is going to go over like a lead balloon. So be it.

I've been reading a lot of things on the internet, in newspapers, etc. about the whole Paula Deen controversy. And while I do not in any way condone the use of a racial slur by ANYONE - white, black, Asian, Hispanic, etc.... I think this particular controversy has skewered Paul Deen way beyond the scope of reason. And yes, I've been to Lady and Sons restaurant (food was a tad overpriced, any really good buffet you could get just as good, imo) and I've been to Uncle Bubba's seafood place - actually liked it a great deal.

Let he or she who is WITHOUT sin cast the first stone - or the second, third, etc. I find it hard to fathom that ANY of us haven't done or said something in our entire lives that we regret terribly and would be horrified if the whole world were to start jumping on us about. Does being a public figure and making a mistake mean we are automatically the devil incarnate?. Does having our children come to our defense mean we are weak and incapable of speaking for ourselves? I'd be proud for my child to publicly come to my defense.

Does being from one particular state in the South and being a white person mean we automatically have to apologize for all past sins of all white people from this state? Does being from the South and having pride in our heritage automatically mean we MUST be racist? And just because some southerners have a stronger accent than others, does that give anyone the right to automatically think we're ignorant or somehow "backwards" - or to make fun of the accent?

Paula Deen is NOT the root of all evil. My personal belief is that the Food Network had a knee jerk reaction in firing her and I think they were wrong. AGAIN, that's my personal belief. Doesn't mean it's wrong or right, but I defend the right to express it. I do not want to get in an argument or debate with anyone here, but it was important to me as a southerner and a Georgian to express it. I don't think there is ANYTHING she could say or do at this point that would satisfy those piling on her.

I've always enjoyed the witty comments on these forums about various programs that we all enjoy or love to talk about. Hope to continue enjoying them.

I will help you to keep your lead balloon aloft ElizabethG. I think that Paula has handled all of this poorly, but I don't think she deserves the level of vitriol that she's been getting. There are A LOT of great things that social media has brought to the world. The fantastic nature of FORT, and getting to share TV watching experiences and other things in life with such interesting people with such varied points of view is just one of them. But there is bad that has come with social media too, and I think the temptations of group think and mob attack mentallities is one of those things. I think it should be okay to recognize a person has done a bad thing without insisting that the bad thing provides a wide enough window to see that person's soul.

I agree that things are going too far. The internet/social media/etc. does seem to promote mob mentality.
I know very little about Paula & never really cared to. I'm not a foodie. I don't live in the South. I don't eat or make rich foods. Never even heard of her restaurants. I've just seen her face & name on products in the stores. Just like Rachael Ray, Martha Stewart, & even Betty Crocker. Just another cooking & home product name to me. Means nothing to me (except maybe Betty Crocker ).

Anyhow, this professional assination has just gone overboard.
There are a lot of jerks & appalling people who have done or said appalling things, in the public eye. Tiger Woods, Mel Gibson, to name just a couple. Now lets add Paula Deen to the list if you want. My respect for her is fast going the way of these other two now.
But does that mean she should be punished by losing her livelihood because of it. Has she become equatable with Osama Bin Laden or Charles Manson? I don't think so.

If people don't care to patronize her establishments or buy her products because of this, then good. She did it to herself. But let that be the reason she's dropped. Lack of draw, or even customer complaints. Not out of knee jerk self righteous reaction.

From what I understand, Tiger Woods is back to Nike sponsorship and still playing golf & Mel Gibson is still making movies, although both have lost people's respect or admiration. I think both are scum, but that doesn't mean they should be banned from their livelihood. Same with Paula Deen.
