Jaguar wreck sends Nicole Kidman to hospital

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Nicole Kidman was taken to a hospital after the Jaguar she was in crashed early Thursday during downtown shooting of the science fiction thriller "The Invasion," police said.

Kidman, 39, was examined at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and then released a short time later. Paramedics were called to examine Kidman for injuries before she was taken to the hospital, police said.

"Nicole Kidman was in the vehicle at the time of the accident and was taken to the hospital for evaluation. She was released shortly thereafter," Warner Bros. said in a statement. No other actors were involved in the scene at the time of the accident, the studio said.

The Jaguar was being towed by a camera rig that skidded while taking a corner and caused Kidman's car to hit a pole on West Sixth Street, police said. The actress was wearing a seat belt.

"The stunt driver apparently went off course and hit a light post at about 1 a.m.," police Officer Karen Smith said.

Eight people, including Kidman, stuntmen and cameramen, were taken to hospitals for examination and were released, Smith said. Warner Bros. said two crew members had minor injuries. Warner Bros., a unit of Time Warner Inc., also said production continued after the crash and Kidman was expected back on the set Thursday.

The Oscar-winning actress, who stars as a Washington psychiatrist who unearths the origin of an alien epidemic, was involved in a scene involving an escape from zombielike characters who are on the hood of the car.

I know this article is actually about Nicole Kidman being involved in a minor movie stunt accident, but the biggest thing that stands out to me in the article is the part I've colored above in red bold text. Am I the only one wondering if she's filming the true story of her ex-husband and her escape from the clutches of Tom's alien scientology minions? It's just too perfect a plot line to not be about Tom Cruise.

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Marcheline Bertrand, actress and mother of Angelina Jolie, has died of cancer, her daughter said Sunday.

Bertrand died Saturday afternoon at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Jolie said in a news release. No age was provided.

According to the Internet Movie Database, Bertrand was born in 1950.

Jolie, her older brother, James Haven, and her boyfriend, Brad Pitt, were at the hospital Saturday, according to the news release.

Bertrand, who had small roles in the movies "Lookin' to Get Out" in 1982 and "The Man Who Loved Women" in 1983, raised Jolie and her brother after divorcing their father, Oscar-winning actor Jon Voight, when Jolie was a toddler.

A private funeral was planned.

In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Women's Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai.

Interesting. This could more than explain the dour look on her face when she was on the red carpet at whichever awards show it was, acouple of weeks ago. She may have been doing well to put one foot in front of the other.

Niki Taylor sues E!

Swimsuit model tries on different kind of suit, claiming network intentionally slandered her in new doc series.

Niki Taylor has filed a federal lawsuit against the E! channel, claiming the network slandered her and intentionally inflicted emotional distress on her. The suit, filed Friday in US District Court, also alleges fraud, breach of contract, and invasion of privacy.

Taylor claims in her suit that E! approached her manager about being the subject of documentary segment that would chronicle the former swimsuit model's life. The network assured the segment would highlight Taylor's current endeavors such as her business ventures and charity work.

Taylor alleges that E! then perpetrated a bait and switch, instead focusing on her past hardships and personal tragedies, airing the segment as an episode of the reality series Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

"They neglected their journalistic obligations to report truthfully and accurately; they violated express promises they made to the plaintiff, supermodel Niki Taylor; and they demonstrated a reprehensible disregard for the substantial harm their actions would cause to Ms. Taylor," the complaint states.

In 1995, Taylor's younger sister Kristen died of heart dysplasia at the age of 17. In 2001, Niki was seriously injured in a car accident, suffering a collapsed lung and liver damage. After undergoing more than 50 operations and physical therapy, she entered into rehab to fight an addiction to the painkiller Vicodin.

Despite the past, Taylor says things are good now and that E! misrepresented the truth.

"My life is far from a boulevard of broken dreams," Taylor said in a statement.

I don't know why Niki expected "journalistic ingtegrity" from a E!. They're not exactly the epitome of honest factual reporting. Nevertheless, her story just underscores the fact that if you want to control your image and your message don't get into bed with rag mags, sensationalist entertainment TV channels and celeb obsessed shows.

Get thee to Larry King or PBS if you want to give an interview that doesn't involve dramatic reenactions and made-up or even real hype. And I haven't even seen that show she's complaining about but I don't have to. It sounds quite predictably trashy.
