To me, the difference is that the older actors had a chance to live many years and have long, fruitful careers and lives. Heath Ledger and Brad Renfo were cut down in their primes and never got a chance to fulfill their (I think in both cases) great promise.

i get breaking news text message updates on my phone from cnn.com and was on my way home from work when i got my message. i immediately forwarded it to my daughter, who is a HUGE fan.

we're both in shock. so sad ...

I'm still crying over this! I'll always remember him best as the sexy Sir "Ulrich Von Lichtenstein" in A Knight's Tale.

I didn't even know about Suzanne Pleshette until I read the above post. Normally I get alerts (that's how I found out about Heath). I must've not seen that one. WOW! Not sure who the other guy is, though. Allen Melvin?

Allan Melvin - great Character actor - Sam the butcher from brady Bunch, Barney Hefner All in the family, Hacker on gomer Pyle, Numerous movie credits, tv show credits.

Totally shocked to read about what happened to Heath Ledger and Brad Renfro. Both were extremely talented and it saddens me that they both passed at such young ages

Renfro's problems with drugs and the law were pretty well documented..that wasn't a shocker like Heath's passing is.

My mouth absolutely fell to the floor when I walked into my mom's house tonight and she asked me if I had heard about Heath...I hadn't and when she told me I was dumbfounded! I loved him in "A Knight's Tale" and "The Patriot" (still haven't seen Brokeback Mountain). My son was looking forward to seeing the new Batman movie and had been reading that Heath had done an outstanding job as the Joker. Its a little unsettling to hear all these reports about his death and meanwhile they are flashing those macabre pictures of him dressed as the Joker!

I hope the autopsy shows that it was an accidental overdose and not a suicide...

My thoughts are with Matilda Rose and I pray for strength for Michelle and his family......
