Interesting....I didn't know Rob Thomas and Greta Van Susteren were members.....

I don't think Will and Jada are members...just buddies with Tom from his and Jada's filming of "Collateral"...

Reading between the lines, pretty much every friendship Tom makes is so he can angle these new friends towards Scientology. I'm sure that's how he justifies letting Brooke Shields hang around Katie.

It makes me wonder if Brooke ever just takes Katie aside and says "call your old friends!" 'Cause supposedly, as is required by the Chief Antennaheads, Katie has cut most of them off.

The mere fact that they have such a thing as a "Celebrity Centre" should alert these celebs that they aren't getting an accurate picture of "regular Scientology". Then again, maybe they just don't care--after all, they are being treated well, within certain ridiculous boundaries, I mean.

Just as interesting to me as the list of current celeb Scientologists is the list of past ones (same link as the current ones in my previous post--towards the bottom of the linked page). The level of involvement with most of them was probably little more than attending a seminar or two and then not doing more, but even that reveals the interesting concept that these folks have gone to these things and yet for a variety of reasons kept mum about it for the most part. The power of either embarrassment, or threats have kept them quiet apparently. I mean Oliver Stone? Don't you think he'd normally have something to say about this?

I don't know about any of the rest, but I know that John Brodie was a member (perhaps even a founding member, I forget now) of the Sea Org thing. He's no longer active at all, but still believes in their principles, according to what I read.

I did some research on his involvement last year, as his daughter is Erin Brodie of FLOM fame, and (at least then, no idea now) the girlfriend of Will on BBAS.

Re: Miscellaneous Celebrity News

The truly sad part of all of this is that Jett is now 14. Kids these days are being diagnosed with autism much earlier now....even as young as 3. Back when Jett would have been three, parents would have started noticing certain things that their child would be doing that would have set off some bells (one would think!) and have that child tested. I know several kids who are now 14-16 who have austism. Their parents didn't get a final definite diagnosis of autism until their child was about 6 or 7. But even at age 3, these children were in special schools geared toward autism and starting to get a lot of therapy in year-round programs. Most are now in regular classes. Some are brilliant, others not quite so. There are so many levels of autism.

It saddens me to think just how much Jett could have benefited from early intervention. Here in NY State, if a parent has concerns about their child, they discuss their concerns with their pediatrician who then refers the parent to get an evaluation (insurance covers this). Once the evaluation is complete, if the child qualifies for early intervention, they are enrolled in school (usually starting at age 2 or 3) full time. It does not cost the parents anything, as this is all done through the county and in conjunction with the school districts.

This Scientology mumbo-jumbo just gets scarier and scarier.

You're right, bbnbama. And Will Smith has stated in interviews that he and Jada and their family won't be converting to Scientology.

Will Smith rules out Scientology conversion
Tuesday December 5th, 2006 at 1:39 pm

Will Smith has revealed he and his wife Jada Pinkett Smith have no plans to follow their friends Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes into the Church of Scientology.

He revealed recently that he and Tom have spoken about the religion on a number of occasions: “I’ve talked to Tom about it - [there’s] lots of incredible, wonderful concepts. [But] Jada and I don’t necessarily believe in organised religion.”

He added that it would also cause upset in the Smith family if he did: “I was raised in a Baptist household and my grandmother would get up out of her casket [if I became a Scientologist].”

Will and Jada were guests at Tom and Katie’s Scientology wedding service last month.

Denise Richards, Richie Sambora Split, Rep For Actress Confirms Couple Called It Quits Months Ago - The ShowBuzz

Denise Richards, Richie Sambora Split
Rep For Actress Confirms Couple Called It Quits Months Ago

(CBS) Actress Denise Richards and Richie Sambora called it quits a few months ago, a rep for the actress confirmed Tuesday.

The couple began dating last April, after the Bon Jovi guitarist had split from his wife of nearly 12 years, Heather Locklear, Richard's one-time friend.

"They split a few months ago," Richards' rep, Jill Fritzo, told The ShowBuzz on Tuesday.

"They were trying to keep it as quiet as possible so they don't have to live in the media spotlight," Fritzo said. "They have been extremely supportive of each other."

Fritzo said Richards attended the funeral of Sambora's father last month when he died of cancer.
Richards, 36, was previously married to actor Charlie Sheen. They have two children together. Sambora and Locklear wed in December of 1994. They have a daughter named Ava.

Last year, Richards told "Entertainment Tonight" that she didn't begin seeing Sambora until after Locklear filed for divorce.

Fast Fact
Denise Richards' publicist said the actress attended the funeral of Richie Sambora's father last month when he died of cancer.

She added that her relationship with Sambora was not the cause of her breakup with Sheen. "We didn't meddle in anybody's marriage or anything like that," she said.

Richards said that she, Locklear, Sheen, and Sambora were all friendly with one another, but that she and Locklear were not "best friends."

Although they were close in the last few years, their friendship is no longer "salvageable," she told "ET."

Re: Miscellaneous Celebrity News

Oh my goodness, this news about Paris' reduced jail time comes as such a surprise. NOT. Wow, don't even have to show up to your first day in jail yet, before you can get your time cut in half.

Hilton's good behavior cuts jail time to 23 days
POSTED: 11:06 p.m. EDT, May 16, 2007

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Paris Hilton will serve about half of her 45-day jail sentence and will be separated from the general inmate population, authorities said.

The hotel heiress will spend about 23 days in a "special needs housing unit" at the Century Regional Detention Center in suburban Lynwood, Los Angeles County sheriff's spokesman Steve Whitmore said.

Her sentence was shortened after jail officials gave her credit for good behavior, Whitmore said. Officials considered several factors in calculating the credit, including that she appeared for her latest court date, he said.

Hilton will stay in a unit that contains 12 two-person cells reserved for police officers, public officials, celebrities and other high-profile inmates, he said.

Like everyone else in the 2,200-inmate facility, Hilton will get at least an hour outside her cell each day to shower, watch television, participate in outdoor recreation or talk on the telephone, he said.

The 26-year-old socialite was sentenced to jail this month for violating the terms of her probation in an alcohol-related reckless driving case. A judge ordered her to report to jail by June 5.

A call to her lawyer, DUI specialist Richard Hutton, was not immediately returned. Her publicist, Elliot Mintz, declined to comment.
Forgive my cynicism, but the words "good behavior" used in the same sentence as "Paris Hilton" is just such a jolt to the mind....

This is one of those times I wish we could just post a single-smilie post:

Another angle, from People:

Quote:
Kathy Hilton: Young People May Learn from Paris
WEDNESDAY MAY 16, 2007 11:45 AM EDT
By Stephen M. Silverman

Kathy Hilton wants young people to learn from her jail-bound daughter Paris, according to a statement Barbara Walters read on Wednesday's episode of The View.

Hilton's statement said: "We can only hope that something positive will come from this. Hopefully, young people who look up to people like Paris can learn from this."

Walters said she had talked to Hilton the night before and described her as a friend for "many years" and "a very caring mother." She added, "This is something, obviously, as a mother it's horrendous when your child, no matter what, has to go to jail for 45 days."

Applauding Kathy Hilton's refusal to declare her daughter's innocence, Walters called her comments "a strong and very good statement."

Others at the View table did not necessarily agree, and guest host Kathy Griffin suggested that young people no longer look up to Paris.

"Whether they're looking up or looking down, they're looking at Paris," Elisabeth Hasselbeck pointed out, adding, "You want to discipline your child before the criminal justice system does."

On May 4, Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer sentenced Paris, 26, to 45 days in jail for violating her probation by driving with a suspended license.

After the general public had cleared the courtroom, Kathy Hilton angrily burst from the seating area toward the attorneys' table, saying loudly, "I can't believe this, I can't believe this." Then she approached one of the prosecutors and said, "You're pathetic," before asking sarcastically, "Can I have your autograph?"

This week, Paris's psychiatrist, Dr. Charles Sophy, said in court documents in a separate case that the Simple Life star is "distraught and traumatized" and "fears incarceration."

Re: Miscellaneous Celebrity News

Isn't she supposed to be serving jail before getting any good behavior marks?
